Study Indicates China Surpassed US in CO2 Emissions in 2006

A preliminary estimate by The Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (Milieu- en Natuurplanbureau, MNP) concludes that China’s CO2 emissions in 2006 surpassed those of the USA by 8%, rising to 6,200 megatonnes. This includes CO2 emissions from industrial processes, notably cement production. With this, China tops the list of CO2 emitting countries for the first time.

In 2005, China’s CO2 emissions were 2% below those of the US. MNP based its estimate on recently published BP energy data and cement production data.

Of all industrial processes, cement clinker production is the largest source of CO2. It contributes around 4% to the total of CO2 emissions from fuel use and industrial activities, globally. China has a large share in global cement production (about 44% in 2006), and cement production’s domestic share of CO2 emissions in China is almost 9% (550 megatonnes out of a total of the total 6,200 megatonnes).

Hong Kong (and Singapore maybe?) have such strigent laws on pollution, cars are expensive to buy. Hong Kong is not dirty or polluting. they go way differently than China since its a huge metropolis on a island. (aside driving on the left since it was a british colony)

What do you think of Hinckley Yachts? Do you have any experience with them? My friend is buying a big 70' Sou'wester Sailboat and I want to know what to expect as far as problems and what not. I know they are very nice an dI have seen it but that is about it.

My friend is certified for passage making and obviously all preceeding things. Any other classes he would take would be for instructors so he knows what he is doing.

I just wanted to know what you think of Hinckley, but if you don't desire to comment that is fine.

I think he would agree with you in that education should be a requisite. It is a beautiful boat most certainly. At a price of course, The price tag at last I was told was to be slightly north of $3.9 million- which makes it more expensive than his house, but he loves to sail. I don't think there is any place here in Colorado where he can actually sail it. He says that he will find a place for it on the east coast.

I remember on my cruise down the Yagtze being particularly shocked at just how dirty and how much debris was actually in it.

another funny law in singapore, if you chew gum (or stick it somewhere) your fined $1k USD, some american dude vandalized a ton of cars leading him into being whipped. tht was on major news more than a decade ago.

im headed there aug from LA diverting in mynamar to meet relatives. on the way back to home to dc, im gonna stay there for one nite. we were gonna head to bangkok instead of singapore luckily my dad got a good deal, where it isnt safe unlike yangon. stay cool and safe when you head there!

my dad went there, the city is nice, and odd because of the tsunami, the water level reaches in the rivers in and around bangkok by 1.8 cm and will become the nxt venice if moonsoons become more serious.
