Branson Admits His Saab BioPower Runs on Petrol

Sir Richard Branson's biofuel company car, used to highlight his green credentials, is being run on unleaded petrol.Virgin admitted today that the £33,000 ($66.000) car - a Saab 9 - 5 BioPower - was often filled with ordinary petrol rather than bioethanol fuel, made from sugar cane or other crops.

Because I see "Branson is a stupid hypocrite" comments in the near future, I encourage everyone to read the rest of the article. It says that the nearest station that sells ethanol is 3 hours outside of London. I think we can all agree that filling the car with petrol is more efficient than driving round-trip 6 hours every fill-up just to use ethanol...

This excerpt says it all: "The car is symbolic of the airline boss's new search for environmentally friendly transport." Exactly what we need. Another "symbolic" gesture by a public figure.

In their ridiculous attempts to assuage their guilt and give themselves moral authority to institute additional taxes and draconian rules on others, people like Al Gore, John Edwards and other members of the church of enviromentalism make purely symbolic gestures rather than any real sacrifices to their lifestyle. How typical. Convince us all that they're dutifully doing their part if only the rest of us would do ours. Meanwhile, their mansions and jetsetting around the world do far more environmental damage than any of us.
Just one question. Why is it that the so-called "Green" initiatives perpetuated by politicians and the like always seem to adversely affect the green in my wallet?
