Spy photos: Cadillac Escalade Hybrid

My neighbor got a new Escalade about a week ago in black and I must say that it is a very elegant-looking vehicle. I was amazed at how luxurious and expensive it looked.

this is an even dumber idea than the LS600h. cars like this shouldn't be made to seem environmentally friendly. they're not. at all.

They are over their direct competition.

LS600hL emits 70% less than its competition. The idea is to offer a seemingly normal car, using the addition of electric engines for a boost in power, without totally diminishing environmental friendliness.

Think of it as the more environmentally-friendlier version of adding more cylinders and turbos. Both are used to increase power, hybrids do it cleaner.

its nice to ride and be in (a regular escalade), but too understated and too flashy. it will make greenpeace proud, but not for the rappers. those hybrid badges wont suprise others.

This hybrid rubbish is just a marketing trick. The word 'hybrid' has become a trend, and GM has understood that.

Why don't they put a V8 diesel in there?

A disesl is coming in 2010. A 4.5L with 310bhp and 520 ft-lbs.

This is actually the type of car that should have hybrid systems, although I'd still prefer a diesel hybrid, and I hope this is less of a performance hybrid, but more of a fuel economy one.

This one is a pure economy hybrid. Its keeps the standard 403hp 6.2L engine but the two-mode hybrid system gives it a 25% increase in fuel economy.

How about a 400+ hp V8 hybrid that gets 15mpg.... Just the way you want it :P.

Actually, around 21 mpg. Pretty good for a vehicle of this size and this amount of power.

21 is good for a vehicle that size, but I will believe it when I see it.

The consumption figures are way to optimistical. In real life an Escalade does about 25 liters per 100 km (at my driving style)
