Daimler Launches Facelifted Super Eight

Hot off the launch of the refreshed Jaguar XJ comes the near-identical Daimler version. Not to be confused with Germany’s Daimler-Benz, the Daimler Motor Company is a British car brand that’s currently under the ownership of Ford’s Premier Auto Group. Its latest model, the Super Eight, was released in July 2005 and runs a supercharged 400bhp 4.2L V8 engine with a six-speed automatic.

This year’s update leaves most of the mechanicals unchanged. Instead, the car gets restyled bumpers both front and back, a new aluminum mesh grille and 19in wheels as standard with 20 inchers as an option. Like the Jaguar XJ saloon on which it’s based, the Daimler Super Eight also gets a lightweight aluminium body.

I never understood the purpose of a this Daimler. It's like a rebadged Jaguar and totally pointless. Jaguar's already struggling as a company. As if Daimler is going to sell their version better.

i agree with you, however in the UK there is a market for Daimler whereby such a brand is purchased based on its heritage and traditions. it's almost like the british monarch, there's no real point, but it's there.

I hardly call a £81,642 [ $163,150.00 ] Daimler an economy car.

Incidentally, the article is incorrect. Daimler is not a brand in PAG. Daimler is owned by Jaguar, which is itself in PAG.

I personally felt that Jaguar would take the opportunity to begin to differentiate the products of the Jaguar XJ and the Daimler Super Eight until I read this article. Hopefully, when Jaguar gets themselves back in order, which they are doing, Daimler's potential will be truly realized.

163K!!! excuse my ignorance as I am not British or therefore familiar with these cars. They seem utterly pointless from an American prespective which would rightfully explain why wedo not get them here. Regardless, ontop of the fact that its a rebadged Jaguar its engineered by ford.

Well then whats an X type? Basically a ford taurus. Ever since Ford took them over they have single handedly and completelt screwed over the brand. Jaguars brand image has changed more than Michaels Jacksons face since the 80s. The best thing ford can do is sell it. I like may others with common sense will stay clear of Jaguar and their poor engineering/ reliability. Lets hope the new sexy and upcoming models will save the brand from a certain demise.

Well, the X-type is different. Nobody who drives a real Jaguar wants anything to do with that piece of crap. It is a horrendous bastardization of what a Jaguar should be. The good bit is that Jaguar knows the mistakes and intends to move to their rightful place upmarket.

LOL. Obviously you don't have one and you apparently don't read the reliability rankings. Jaguars have never really had large mechanical problems. Even in the dark days of reliability their problems were electrical. A problem that was almost singly handedly dealt with by stopping the use of Lukas electrical parts in the cars.

Lukas is notorious for that type of thing. The English even have a joke about it..."Is you refrigerator running. No- its a Lukas."
