Used Car Value-Audi A8L The World Of Large Supersized and Luxury Sedan

I want an A8 L. Every time I drive one my urge to abandon my nimble S4 in favor of the supersized, luxury sedan grows even stronger.

It’s not so much that I like the exterior design – although I do, and I consider it to quite easily be the most beautiful of all big sedans in the market today. The torque-laden V8 is a nice feature, but in reality I already have the same powerplant in my S4. The innovative Aluminum Space Frame is cool in an I-can’t-touch-it-but-know-it’s-a-big-differentiator kind of way; I’m really focused on things more tangible.

Clearly..this is a gorgeous, gorgeous car. I think it will win a Pebble Beach in 50 yrs as an example of great design.

Anybody out there own one and care to share ownership experiences?

I've heard that the electronic bits are unreliable (power mirrors, seats, display, AC controls) and sometimes render those things inoperable. I've also heard that mechanically A8's are great. Any real world experience?

I testdrove 1and I started discorvering the car. Its VERY comfortable to sit in and fast enough for anyone. I like the beautiful clean interior and elegant exterior. Its an awesome car.

The only problem year with an A8L was 2004 if we are only refering to the current generation. After that, the bugs have been worked out and the car has proven to be very reliable. They can be very hard to find preowned from 2006 on. They are extremely hard to find preowned if you want certain options such as the sport package. I guess the people who bought them new are still happy with them.

I like the S8, thts the best car (imho) for its class since it has awd but the s63 could wipe it out. overall, its amazing.

I am a BMW guy but that car is stunning in person. Thats one car I plan on adding to my colection. I still love my old 745i. one of my favorites. With 16psi it puts about 400hp to the wheels and about 496 ft/lb of torque out of a 3.4l inline 6. You could imagine the look of a GTO 6.0 litre when my "ancient old" 85 745i turbo spanked him twice. The car stock runs about 6 psi but with a casically its still stock except for the rerogramed ECU. I strayed from the topicv but none the less that A8 has to be the most beautiful big sedan around period.

The A8 is a great car, is really is. Pretty quick, reliable, great brakes, tons of grips and a good soundtrack from that V8.

Aluminum body and a superior AWD system should make it an outstanding used car value considering the high depreciation given to it by the market. I believe that Audi depreciation rates will improve greatly in the future as more and more people realize how good Audis have become.

Considering an A8L listed for about $72000 brand new in 2004 and good examples still bringing about $44K, that translates to a retained value of at least 60% after 3 years. That should be one of the highest percentages in the segment. If you do the same comparison for MB (the worst), Lexus and BMW (both about the same) but still below Audi, I'm not sure your argument holds water.

Htay7500 - I also think the S8 is the best looking car in the segment. I saw one today driving on I95 from Connecticut into New York. I love the sound of the exhaust as well.
