First Drive: 2008 Ford Taurus

I actually like the looks of the new Fords, this one is merely acceptable.

As far as your description as to why you loathe this car, I think it is the best description I have read on autospies.

Had you mentioned Geordi La Forge with no image available, I would have known it was from Star Trek, but not much more. I only know exactly who he is now, based on the photo of the Taurus above :)

It will not stand out in it's class at all, at any price. The design in uninspiring (not going to impress anyone enough to make them actually want to go out and buy it). On top of that you have quality/reliability concerns. Put those two together and you get a lot of cars sitting around on the car lots.

Too bad Ford is not bringing their Mondeo from Europe. That could actually inspire someone to buy your car. You wouldn't want that, would you?

You wouldn't know if Ford built reliable, quality cars if it drove up and bit you in the ass! Like everyone else on this board you take the road most traveled and bury a credible and noteworthy American automobile before it even has a chance to prove itself. Everyone knows that Ford, Chrysler, and GM has had quality problems in the past, but that doesn't mean that everything in the next 20 years will be unreliable and lacking in quality. So what if it doesn't stand out in its class, there are great many cars that don't stand out either but people are buying them. This car deserves as much of a chance before you and the import hippies throw it in the trash heap. These companies are fighting for there lives and for that I believe they are trying to build credible cars. They may not be the best but at least they are trying and they deserve credit!

Ford is doing a good job, so is GM. Chrysler is working hard too. All people who swear by Japanese cars should seriously give the Big3 a look. Things aren't anything what they used to be.

I always said I'd never be caught dead in a Korean car, not more than 2 yrs ago. Now I can't help but look at them and compare them on an even playing field with everyone else's cars.

The Ford 500 wasn't a bad car at all. With all these improvements (including the new engine), hopefully it will sell well. The 500 that I drove was smooth, comfortable and crisp.

Had I wanted to address you I would have done so by stating your handle as I have at the start of this post. Be that as it may...when I choose to light into someone it's because their ignorance is just too much to bear and I have to let it out. There isn't anything that I've said that I would retract. I could care less about "boost points".

OK, so it sucks just a little bit less. Its still behind the pack or average in every mechanical area of its segment. Just another Ford model doomed to become a rental car and cab in a city near you.

But Seriously I think Ford and GM are finally doing something. If Chrysler would improve their interior, if GM would improve that cheap failure prone Delco electronics crap and Ford would get some more agressive styling I am sure they would do well. Problem is that companies like Honda and Toyota consistently built cars light years better built and more reliable that the Big 3 and while the quality and reliability gap has certainly closer, The damage has already been done from the 80's and 90's and into 2,000's. Now our products are pretty damn close and in some cases just as reliable but it is going to take a while to regain the confidence of camry and accord drivers, in the same way it took time for us to accept and appreciate the better quality and reliability toyota and honda offered starting in the 80's.

They cant bring the mondeo its just too expensive th e base model starts at $27,000 US. And for reliability its good Ford is actually ahead of the other Big 2 in that area.Its fine it will sell good. And that reminds me the camry we get here looks like

Crap!! Im in singapore right now and our camry is their old model. Their camry is absolutely beautiful I managed to get some shot of ferraris etc.
