Survey Shows American Drivers Won't Stop Driving Because Of High Fuel Costs

Nearly half (47%) of US car owners are willing to buy a more fuel efficient car should gas prices increase $1, but a strong majority rule out using alternative transportation to offset rising gas prices and are more likely to cut discretionary spending, according to a survey by Discover Financial Services. Discover Financial Services is a business unit of Morgan Stanley, and operates the Discover Card with more than 50 million cardmembers.

The Discover Survey reported that half (50%) of car owners are driving vehicles that get less than 20 miles per gallon.

How can Americans stop driving? Years ago the feds promise a nation wide system of transportation and money for the cities to install mono rails and new bus routes from the burbs to the city and malls instead the public got nothing but pot hole streets and broken rail system and buses to dangerous to ride.
Look don't put this gas crisis on the shoulders of the people they would love to have 30mpg or more and a mono rail but it went for other things want a laundry list?

Okay, gas prices is too high. Let's see, I'll just quit driving. Can't goto work, shop for food, school etc...everything you do in U.S. involves driving unlike Netherlands where most folks pedal bicycles to work or shop. Commonsense Agent009..stupid article.

Won't stop driving or can't stop driving? Think about it. Our economy is based off of us traveling several miles to get to work. We can't stop driving because it's too far to get to our jobs so we have to drive. Oil industries are just taking advantage of that fact.

People will stop drivbing when gas gets too expensive....I think somewhere around 6 bucks a gallon is gonna be what it takes to make people think better about driving everywhere. The Gov't doesn't want us to quit driving at all. Like LexusIS350 said the economy is based on us driving everywhere we go.
