Rumor: Nissan 350Z retractable hardtop in the works

Accoring to sources over at GTChannel, Nissan’s Autech division has finalized designs on a retractable hardtop convertible 350Z. The car is expected to use the current chassis as a test mule.

GTChannel is saying that we could possible see a facelift of 350Z as early as this year’s Tokyo Auto Show in concept form. Sales of the redesigned Nissan 350Z will begin some time in 2009, leading to a confirmation of the retractable hardtop variant...

Man, about time doing this and I hope their next generation Nissan 350Z will be a hit again. I love the current 350Z but are getting old now. With the new design coming out, I hope they keep a similar taillight design on the new one.

Nuh uh, the first retractable hard top was the Peugeot 401 eclipse in 1935.

Why not?
Peugeot make the best selling convertible in Europe, the 206 CC, which was also the first mass market hard top convertible.

aeyjay, the G37 hardtop convertible is unofficially slated to be released in fall 2008. I'm wondering how much trunk space will be left with the top down assuming they keep it a 2+2.
