Rubbish. I'm guessing BMW is using the 3.9 V8 from the 540i and 740i.

as great of a car the ls600 will be, i doubt that it will be able to match the performance of this turbo charged 7-series. this 7-series will probably be in the league of the S600 or S63 to really make a stand.

Keep in mind that Toyota has turbocharged their cars as well. Why do you make it seem like turbo is such a bad thing. The car itself without turbo must be already good in performance and handling because with more power and no dynamics the car would still be just as bad.

The LS600H has got too much publicity and is now just over rated. It has great features and comfort but I don't see a wow factor in the LS that sets it apart from its competitors. Sure it's the best the Japanese can offer but it's not the best in the world. IMO the best in the world still comes from Europe. It's not a biased point of view. I own an LS so I have experienced the best from both parts of the world.

LexusKing, I highly doubt that the LS600HL is the reason for BMW going turbo. BMW has never cared to follow Lexus or any other make really. It has always been the other way around. They are doing it simply for their own goals and to continue setting the benchmark in every class.

LS600hL has no competition. The last thing the world needs is another 10mpg car.

BTW, I think Edmunds loose their marbles sometimes. Why in the world would they predict the M3 engine going turbo in a 7 series? That would be my last guess!

Okay now this is getting stupid. The 3.0l twin turbo I6 won the engine of the year award.. which makes you look like your speaking out of your a**. Now if you just use your brain, just for a second, if the 3.0 I6 had great engineering, what would a 4.0l V8 in the flagship have?

I'm pretty sure this is the rumored twin-turbo V8 that is going to replace the current V8 from the 750i, 550i, and 650i. It will be the bigger brother to the new twin-turbo 6 that is BMW's new cars. I'm guessing that it will be a 4-liter with between 390-430hp which is a good performance jump from the current V8 considering that it will be more fuel efficient and have more new engine technology. They cant make it much more powerful than about 420 because that would be way too close to the M5/M6 engine.

You are right. I think if Marketing pushes hard enough, it will only get the N64 engine to a maximum of 450 but I doubt if that will happen because of the S85 engine.
The new 5.5 litre V10 (S85) engine needs to be at least 100 HP above the N64 engine, so 420 might be a nice round figure.

SupraNeverBack, they aren't low tech at all. They probably spent millions developing the new twin-turbo system and it definitely worked as it cmpletely reduced turbo lag while still giving a big performance jump and if thats not enough for you, "Best New Engine of 2007: BMW 3-litre Twin-Turbo (335i)"-read up next time! The new V8 will be just as good as the new turbo 6 engine or better.

The 4.4 litre TT V8(N64B44O1) is what you are looking at and it is called. The N64B44O1 engine is based off the S62 engine architecture.
It is capable of over 500 HP and 500 ft.lbs of Torque as exhibited by the Alpina B7 engine, however it will pegged at the low 400 as mentioned by "BMWM", or maxed at 450 HP & Torque depending what marketing decides.

My apologies, I meant N62 engine from the 545i. The N64B44O1 will be based on the N62B44O1 engine.
The N62 engine is the name of the 4.4 litre V8 that powered the 745/545/645/X5 4.4
An S62 (S62B50) was the V8 M engine in the E39 M5. The new M3 is the S65B40O1 engine

it's not the same one, this engine first came out in the 2002 745.

The one in the 1996 740i is the M62 engine
