Porsche and Audi join forces for an Audi R4
You guys were probably thinking the relationship between Audi and Porsche is probably on the rocks since Audi handels Volkswagen’s premium and performance division. Well to kill that speculation, Audi and Porsche will be joining forces on an entry level mid-engined Audi R4 coupe and roadster, as well as the next-generation Boxter and Cayman.

As reported before, Audi will be making a lineup of four ‘R’ badged cars including the R8 with a roadster variant, R4, R6 and an R10. While the Audi R6 will sit between the Porche 911 and Boxter, the Audi R4 will be an entry-level mid-engined car with a price bracket between £28-35,000.

While Porsche will be helping Audi with the R4, Audi will give their two cents for the next-generation Boxter/Cayman codenamed 981/C8. According to sources over at CarMagazine the Audi R4 will have a 2.5 liter 5-cylinder engine that produces up to...

I like Audi a lot, but this is getting ridiculous here. So they're going to have four different mid-engine coupes and convertibles? Are they still making the A4 convertible? And they're coming out with an A3 convertible that overlaps the R4 pricing and an A5 convertible that overlaps the R6? And the TT they just millions of dollars redesigning, what happens to that car? How many different models does Audi think they can afford to offer when there's going to be that much overlap and cannibalization of sales?

Jrob I completely agree. What the? is what I thought when this article posted. Audi, porsche & VW just cant wait to dilute their products. Let me get this str8 ... Audi offers the TT conv, A4 conv, R4 conv, A3 conv & A5 conv? The pricepoint is $29k to $60k ... In the 2 seat version there will be the R4 which competes with their own TT and A3. Yeah that makes perfect sense. How many more 2 seat conv can Audi squeeze in? idiots

Some 2 doors and the cabrios are basically the same thing but rebranded

A4 cabrio and a two door will be A5 plus a coupe variation
etc.

If they build an R4 and an R6, where does the TT fit??? I love my A4 and plan to buy another Audi when the lease is up on this one but aren't they spreading there linup thin with this.

I seriously doubt they will build an R6 and if they ever build an R10 - I don't think that would be for years down line when they want to replace the R8. Btw - I saw two TT's on the highway in the past week. They look way more masculine than the original.

Ohh how I hope the purposeful brand of Porsche doesn't get even further diluted.

Tisk Tisk.

Don't believe a word of it!

The last collaboration between Audi and Porsche was the legendary RS2 Avant. If they can match that, I'm in!

Yeah - I agree with you. It just doesn't sound too accurate. I think they will share in things like certain technology - but that's about it. This wouldn't be the first time 'egmcartech' posted some erroneous information.
