The Audi A7? I though this would be a Rolls Royce Drophead/Bentley Continental & Brooklands competitor.

I dont think it will compete directly with those cars. It will be the first to revive the class of long exctinct 4 door convertibles. What's clear is that it WONT be an Audi A7 competitor.

Why would Mercedes make a model to just compete with Audi, and one that hasnt even debuted yet? Mercedes has never been after any of Audi's products.

Audi A7 is a size smaller, the size of a 6 series.
This competes with very little, to a degree the Continental GT but little else.

The concept car is so nice...I wonder how close the production version will be.

Yes, and it would look great on South Ocean Blvd, PB. I once bought a Miata Ridgerunner mountain bike because I lived on a street called Ridgefield Crescent.

I totally disagree, as a MBZ owner many times over i don't see this yacht (4 door conv polo anyone) doing anything for MBZ other then have 80 year olds cruising to the rest home and playing Rudy Valle greatest hits.
Love German cars, but i would pass on this Titantic, don't drive it in a fog you may hit a iceberg?

Regarding the comment by "W209w114", isn't Mercedes developing a mid-engine competitor to the Audi R8?

Yes, They are infact developing a mid engined car. However, this will be much more performance oriented than the SL which is already at the 100K mark. This would make the mid engined car far more expensive than the R8

I agree with Will up top. I thought it would be a Rolls Royce Drophead/Bentley Continental & Brooklands competitor as well. I'll make my final thoughts when I see it in person. It has potential to be great. It'll just take some time to get used to it.
