Future hybrid and electric powertrains for Smart confirmed

Previously reported, Smart was rumored to offer its own version of the start-stop fuel-saving technology later this year. Well at a recent media event, Thomas Weber, head of research and development for DaimlerChrysler, confirmed that Smart will offer start-stop engine option starting in October 2007.

I wish they didn't lose so much from Smart - $5+ billion from Mercedes-Benz is a lot
so they basically had a profit of like 200 million

They need to do something, because for such a small car the mileage (40mpg) is pretty crappy.
