It really does not matter if they are larger then Toyota. It's more important that Porsche remains independent and in control of VW.The other potential problem is the Euro fuel economy standards for 2012. If Porsche can use VW to factor in its corporate average fuel economy they can stay in business. Right now it threatens any maker of high perfromance cars. So Porsche has to hook up with VW.

Unless VW can promise 1) rock solid reliability 2) good prices, there is no way it would unseat Ford/GM before unseating Toyota.

The No.1 reason why Toyota trucks are competing well with U.S. made trucks is the rock solid reliability of their cars. Trucks are working cars that buyers want to get 200,0000 miles out of before buying a new car. Although U.S. made cars don't promise Toyota reliability, they are relatively inexpensive to maintain for the long haul, and at the end of the day, that's what counts. Toyotas cost more to maintain, but because they require less maintenance, that pretty much evens out. VW parts are NOT cheap, and if these cars are anything like the Beetle or Jetta, nobody will touch their trucks due to durability issues.

Volkswagens cannot compete simply due to their pricing. Dirt cheap, yet rock solid reliability is a combination that only Toyota and Honda have mastered. If GM, Ford, Hyundai, and VW really want to unseat Toyota as much as they rant they want to, they'd realize that simple formula.

VWs are simply not comparable to the Japanese in terms of pricing and value, but have it your way: Honda and Toyota sell much more than VW even WITH comparable prices?

VWs are NOT cheap to maintain or repair, neither are their parts. go to vwvortex.com, a vw forum, some suspect of trunk and suspension issues as well as electrical problems. we had a passat before for 9 yrs with quality and reliability issues. we had to maintain it every other month or wk to keep it running and again it was not cheap. VW isnt famed much for their reliability or quality (not speaking of their interiors though). are you aware that they are still troubled with tht issue? the passat maybe chosen over the accord in germany but not the whole world, if you have proof. honda did very well with reliability in the UK.

again, owning an accord and passat, the accord is much less of a pain to maintain and repair. I can attest to tht since I said tht we ownd both. VW is only better because of engineering, comfort, interior quality, and driving. Honda is a better value unless your willing to pay more.

The Civic SI kills the VW GTI in performance,car and drive already compared both vehicles,how does that make VW better than Honda,as for the Camry versus the Passat,well the Camry Isn't the best selling car in it's class for nothing!!
