Land Rover is putting the finishing touches on the design and engineering of an all-new Range Rover, a milestone that marks the company’s next phase of new-model launches.

Scheduled for sale in 2012, the next Range Rover takes on the role of replacement for the vehicle that launched Ford’s Land Rover ownership in 2001. By the time a new Range Rover arrives, assuming one does, either as this all-new model or merely a refresh, Land Rover probably will be far removed from Ford ownership once again.

And it already had a refresh so any new models will have to be ALL NEW.

It is okay for Range Rover to have a shelf life of 10-12 years as it is not the average Run-of-the mill Vehicle.

Range Rover is to SUVs what Bentley is to Luxo-Sedans and if you notice the Bentley has a VERY LONG shelf life.

Range Rover Sport is a phenomenal vehicle that I've had many opportunities to drive. Interiors are impeccable too.

I had a chance to testdrive a range rover vogue and I was happy with the interior.... it looked nothing special. But I still love how the exterior looks.

I'm upset that they stopped selling the Defender in North America. The last one sold here had an outdated OHV Buick engine. The all-aluminum body on a heavy steel frame made it my kind of vehicle however.

The Land Rover is an excellent classy car, extremely capable of going off-road. However, my family is getting a GL because we don't need off-roading (not as much capability I mean) but space and luxury. ALso, it's a bit cheaper and we're getting a diesel version - 20/25 yay!

I'm sure Ford will cheapen the hell out of this car. Jag's are the same way. I used to have a 2000 Range Rover. I still like those models way more than the current model developed by BMW and Ford. The 1995-2002 models were true Range Rovers. These are just "Range Rover"s. I have been trying to find a 2002 model to own as a 2nd car- so I have another car to drive when it's in the shop.

As long as they update the Range Rover with more of an evolutionary design and keep the same design cues that have made it recognizable for nearly 40 years it'll be good. I'm worried that Ford will try to make the Range Rover more profitable and appealing to the masses. I think that BMW did a spectacular job designing the current Range Rover. If anything Ford should just update the current one and make it more upscale for 2012. It should also stay appealing to the British, not neccesarily Americans.

I read an article last week whereby they stated that the American arm forces where so impressed with the Australian armed vehicles in Iraq and how strong they were over their Hum vees that they ordered 1000 of them.
Guess what the aussies use? Yes Land Rovers.

King of off road? Definatly not!Maybe a long time ago. If you have the money to fix it it is a great car! That new diesel sounds great and the interior looks awesome!
