I didn't knew Lexus is developing an IS coupé.

If a coupe is usually smaller inside then its sedan sibling then the IS coupe might as well be a two seater.

Baseless information. I don't see no IS coupe. Lexus fans tend to dream a lot and talk about cars that doesn't exist. What happened to the GS-F and LS-F? I don't see them.

Actually I rather like it. I know this isn't what its gonna look like but its a good start. I like the front end...that character line on the side could go though. Otherwise its pretty nice. They really need to work on the interior. In my car the interioir is the weak spot. No where near as nice as the last gen car. Especially the seats.

This looks like shorter less rounded New MB CL with bumpers of the Newly facelifted MB E Class.

And New Lexus SC will not compete with 3 Coupe and CLK but 6 Series and SL.

The SC in theory will compete...when it's priced around 35K less than a 6 or a SL. It's more like a special market in between. I'm not exactly sure what car it will compete with.

MonkMonk - 7/11/2007 12:59:54 PM

The 6 and SL are both better than the SC anyway. I tried my uncle's SC and I said it was overall a good car to make him happy. The power was ideal, but the transmission was terrible - when we shifted, I thrown a bit from my seat. Unfortunately, my brother was also in the car, and he had to squeeze in the back seats - not a pleasant experience (only good from briefcases)

the SC never has competed with the SL. they're not even in the same class of car. the SC competes with the 3-series convertible and CLK which are similarly priced.

Not very attractive, but will still sell, because people will still want a Merc.

Cadillac will sell a whole 5 CTS coupe, and Lexus, well, they will sell well... nothing to say about the IS.

I know this reply is off subject but I just saw a prototype or pre-production CTS base model. It didnt have the foglamps at the bottom and instead, it had a gray insert there. I WAS HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED. Also, the front headlamps didnt have the "light pipes". Somebody on the design team needs their ass whooped...

What's with the new Lex GS-esq inner headlight treatment? I dont like the way the new GS headlights went slantly and boxy. Seems these photochoppers think that's the direction Benz will go. I bet they ditch the multi-headlight design all together.

What happened to the somewhat muscular looks of the 1999-2002 CLK 430/55? This and the current CLK are very "fem" in styling.

When will MB come out with a mid-level coupe that will appeal to male buyers?

benz has made huge improvements on the styling of its entire line especially to the front bumper. imagine the clk63 when considering the amg c63 version of the c-class and the black series.

at least the clk isnt using the exact front end of the c-class this time around. lol.

last gen amg c and clk were hardly considerations in terms of sale compared even to the m3. bmw will undoubtly be facing stiff competition.

I have always liked the CLK mostly because it is one of the only pillarless hardtop cars made today. There is something about a two-door with the windows down and no B pillar.

I just read a letter to Car and Driver (page 29 of August 2007 issue) to the effect that Lexus charges $896 for a Panasonic lead-acid Lexus Link backup battery worth $21.50 -- that's reason enough for me never to buy a Lexus. I also recall about 20 or 30 years ago that Honda was charging some $500 or $600 for alternators normally priced around $100 at aftermarket retailers for domestic cars. Sure makes me think twice about ever buying a Japanese car.

They meant the 3rd generation of the SC. Have we forgotten about the Toyota Soarer that Lexus re-badged?

The SC was originally an SL competitor but never received the attention it wanted. SL is by far the best luxury GT cruiser on the market today. Next is probably the Aston Martin V8 Vantage or 6 series.

Road and track compared the 6 series against the CLK500 and the Benz beat it. The SC would be better off in the CLK range than the SL. These markets are dominated by the Germans. I'm sorry but it's true.

Same way as the truck market was dominated by American makes.

And with new Tundra, Toyota is starting to hurt them.

Same way I am sure that After the release of New SC,IS-F,LF-A and Supra Toyota/Lexus will start hurting Coupe, Sport/Super Saloon/Coupe segment which is currently dominated by the Germans.

"Lexus will be shitting bricks trying to figure out what there next GS sedan is going to look like."

You used word 'WILL', which means that after the release of New E Class which is very late (2009) Lexus WILL try to figure how the next GS will be.

BUT it's NOW for MB.MB is shitting bricks trying to figure out how to make a better, more beautiful car than the current Lexus GS.

And also to develop a new V6 (300 BHP+) which can compete with Lexus,BMW and Infinti.

I mean first figure whose behind and shitting bricks

Good luck MB.

1st of all, Mercedes is taking there cars in the future the right way, Lexus and Infiniti is craming these 300hp engines into there cars and they look so bloated and unhappy especially the IS-F. The new E-class is coming out late because the current one is doing so good in sales right now. While Lexus and Infiniti is so constipated trying to figure out whats next, Mercedes is doing an excellent job.

Good Luck (L)&(><) LOL

Lets put this to an end. It doesnt matter who copies who, If MB copies Lexus, then MB will get credit for its designs.

If Lexus copies MB, then Lexus gets ridiculed. Its all about the fact that MB has the more powerful brand imaging and are int he position where they can do it!!

Enough said. Sorry Lexus lovers, but its the fact of life that 80% people in this world does not know what a Lexus is, but 95% knows what a MB is!

Jugnu,

I respect that you like Lexus. But with the exception of the hybrid technology, the GS is a piece of s**t. The current E class from a design both exterior and interior wipes the floor with it, and with the next model ont he way. Lexus will be, as they always have been doing and will continue to, struggling to match it...and will NEVER beat.

I have sat in the driver seat of a 2006 GS and 2006 E class. I find the GS to be more refined, modern with richer colors and textures.

Honest opinion. Although I do believe the exterior of the E class is more elegant.
