True Luxury Is About Understatement, Not Ostentation-2007 Audi A8

If you watch Extra! every night, this is what you think the luxury lifestyle is about. For the self-absorbed starlets of Hollywood, it is. For the rest of us, true luxury is about understatement, not ostentation. It's about appreciating the finer things in life, going about your business quietly, and conducting yourself with dignity, class and elegance. For this kind of life, the Audi A8 is a perfect conveyance. Unfortunately, luxury is also about simplicity, and the A8 is, at times, dangerously complex.

Audi lent us a 2007 A8, the short-wheelbase model instead of the extended A8 L version. Our Quartz Gray Metallic test sample cost $69,620 including the $720 destination charge, a fair sum for a 350-horsepower luxury sedan with all-wheel drive and a gorgeous Amaretto interior. Though expensive, we highly recommend the $6,300 Bang & Olufsen audio system, the $4,000 sport package with adaptive air suspension and 20-inch wheels (our car wore winter rubber on smaller 19-inch rims), and the $1,500 Alcantara Package. Other goodies included the $4,000 premium package, $600 for dual-zone rear seat climate control, and $550 for Sirius satellite radio for a total of $86,970.

If money was no object, then S class for sure.
But it is a lot more expensive than the A8...and I like the A8's understatement and interior...

btw where is S4cabriofox?

It's not always about the money. I would still choose the A8, just because I like the Audi style over the others. Not because it's better, I just like it more. It s like you can be rich and nobody will notice, but with an S class you just tell everybody how fine u're doing.

Um, why pick these two bloated unreliable German pieces of junk when you can have a fully loaded LS460 and still have spare cash to buy a yach? Give me the Lexus.

@dre3000, I agree, there are cars from both sides that don't totally satisfy me.

Start throwing words around like "respect" here and all Hell will break loose. I've yet seen the poster "Kalimba" respect anyone who does not prefer a German car.

Dre3000 made a brilliant comment. I like the CLS, SL, TT, RS4, 3-Coupe, R8, and A8 just to name some off the top of my head, not just Lexus... but will people listen to that? No. Why? 'Cause it's fun to act ignorant here.

The only thing S-Class has going for it is the world's best front seats (even slightly better than A8 front seats). A8 is technically superior because of its aluminum body and Quattro AWD with Torsen. Jaguar XJ Super 8 would be nice but it comes up short in rear leg room and should be priced at about 2/3 the price of the S-Class. A8 offers the best bang for the buck among these 3 cars.

I really like the A8 its such a nice car. Its very light because of aluminum and has an awesome interior. Its nearing the end of its life cycle and is still very competitive and its design has aged well.

I bought an audi A8 a few years ago, Its very reliable and holds good value. I like the A8's but it needs to grow out of its usual styling and try something different.
