Ford never intended to build the Interceptor

On of our favorite concept over the past year has been the Ford Interceptor that was unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show in January. But like us right now, Ford CEO, Alan Mulally was disappointed to learn that the company never intended on building the beautiful large sedan. Honestly, we think Ford never intends on doing anything that may actually increase sales.

Freeman Thomas, Ford’s director of strategic design, is out to create another hit; but it definitely won’t be the Ford Interceptor. Thomas said he would rather work on vehicles that are actually destined for sheet metal. To Thomas, the Ford Interceptor is all about image.

Even though the Interceptor didn't really light my fire this article proves the reason FORD is loosing billions. They don't seem to want to build cars that people want.

I agree 100 %. Even if Ford built a watered down version of the Interceptor it would be a hit. It could have been a development off their Ford Falcon from Autralia to cut costs.I would have engineered it to accept the 4.5 V8 From the Mustang and 3.5 Duratec V6.Ford is simply too timid in their car designs at this point. The Taurus is actually a decent car but the styling is dull. I just don't understand their thinking? They need to inject some excitment into their products or people are not going to buy them.Toyota does not have to do this but Ford does!

The saddest thing about this story is that there's nothing in the pipeline. Nothing. Ford has to make a serious investment if they want to survive.

Prediction: The Mustang will be surpassed by the competition and Ford will let the product rot without upgrading it (just like the Taurus, Focus, etc)

All I car say is that they are dumber than dumb! They really should continue to lose sales and eventually go out of business! When the U.S. makes wise up and start builduilding and selling cars that the public actually want to buy, things will start to get better for them. Ford needs the Interceptor Concept or something like it. The Mustang, as nice of a car it is, has nothing aside from Ford's trucks to complement it.
