Honda Boosting Production In North America To Meet Growing Demand

Honda Motor Co. is increasing production capacity in North America and elsewhere to keep up with growing demand for its fuel-efficient cars and to maintain the momentum for global growth, the company's president said Wednesday. Annual production in North America will reach 1.62 million vehicles by the fall of 2008 from the current 1.4 million, President Takeo Fukui told reporters.

The maker of Accord and Acura cars would also boost production capacity in other parts of the world, he said.

This company, since its founding by Honda himself, has always bucked trends. They do it they way they see fit. I admire this company as much as I admire BMW.

I can't admire Hoda because they have been using SOHC engines where they should have been using DOHC engines. Also, I am still annoyed at Honda for their past sins like charging a fortune for replacement alternators. I don't trust their new AWD system that has the front and rear axles turning constantly at slightly different speeds which wears out internal clutches. Honda has a nice little hot car in the form of the Civic Si but it is available only with a manual transmission. I dislike companies that offer only manual for their performance models -- it makes me suspect that their automatics can't handle the extra power.

their crv (we own 1st gen but not a bug fan of current one) is also the reason they want to keep up with demand. theyre a worldwide hit especially here. I hope they put their planned diesels in their cars soon.
