Indian carmakers interested in Jaguar and Land Rover

Indian carmaker Tata Motors and tractor manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra are reportedly considering a bid for Jaguar and Land Rover in a deal estimated at roughly $1.5 billion. According to analysts, Tata is in negotiations with Fiat surrounding a deal to finance the bid for the British marques. The two carmakers are already in a joint-venture to produce Fiat cars in India, reports the Economic Times, and Fiat was also rumoured to be interested in acquiring Jaguar’s RWD architecture and Land Rover’s SUV platforms.

Toyota was not mentioned in this article. If they were to acquire LR and Jag, if anything, they would improve their laughable quality control, for which each respective company is on the opposite side of the spectrum.

If anyone could screw this up, it was Ford, and they did not influence their design on LR/Jag, but they copied the headlight design from LR for their SUVs.

I find it funny that there are no private equity firms in the U.K. that want to reclaim ownership of LR and Jag. The RR is the official car of Queen, if there is such a thing. You'd think that would mean something to them?? I guess not if it affects the bottom line.

These words "Fiat was also rumoured to be interested in acquiring Jaguar’s RWD architecture" bothers me.

The absolute last thing that Jaguar needs is the dilution of the last vestiges of true Jaguar through platform sharing its aluminium architecture. Can you imagine a XJ or XK that shares a platform with some Fiat? That would piss me off, in fact it would piss me off so much that I problably would not buy another Jag.

What the hell are you doing on clublexus if you hate Toyota?

This change happened overnight?

I had a similar experience. I once was a Kia fan, but everytime I went to the dealer they treated me like a low-class citizen. Now, I'm a devout BMW/Rolls Royce fan.

They wouldnt build/engineer anything. They'd take over management and any financial obligations.

If India is taking over, I cant wait to see the new XJ-Pinto and the Tonka Rover.
