Mercedes: We’ll get greener and get ahead

After seeing BMW and Audi making headlines as the two announced their plans to get greener, Mercedes-Benz is finally fighting back. “We will catch up and get ahead,” Thomas Weber, head of R&D at Mercedes parent DaimlerChrysler, told Automotive News.

So when Lexus said that they'd eventually end up with some form of a hybrid available on their entire line-up, it sounded crazy. But now, both BMW and Mercedes have announced this semi-hybrid technology for all of their cars as well.

What a crazy world we live in.

There are other ways to helping the enviroment to go green and such. Bmw has found other ways to make a larger impact. case in point .

In May, BMW’s facility in Spartanburg, South Carolina, became the first automotive paint shop to fuel its operations using methane obtained from a landfill. “A 9.5-mile pipeline transports the gas derived from decomposing waste to the BMW plant from a nearby landfill,” Autoblog also reported.

BMW states that the painting process accounts for nearly half of the energy used in its entire automotive assembly process, and that the energy recovered by the use of the methane is equivalent to the electricity used by nearly 10,000 homes.
