Nissan's Profits Continue to Tank

Japanese automaker Nissan said Tuesday its April-June quarter profit fell 16 percent because of higher material costs and taxes and a lack of new models.

Nissan said its group net profit for the fiscal first quarter slid to 92.3 billion yen ($765 million) despite an on-year sales jump.

After marking a dramatic turnaround in recent years from near-bankruptcy under a 1999 alliance with Renault SA of France, Nissan Motor Co. has seen sliding sales amid a dearth of new models. Higher raw material costs and incentives, or discounts to woo buyers, have also hurt Japan's No. 3 automaker.

They'll be alright once they abandon the dreaded CVT. CVTs generally cannot handle higher-powered engines because of still outstanding reliability issues. Many 6-speed conventional automatic transmissions are available today and even 7- and 8-speed automatics for optimizing fuel economy. Don't count on CVTs to optimize fuel economy as they have some inherently power-wasting design problems.

as soon as nissan adjusts to more fuel efficient cars they will be fine. Please keep the Armada though.. I need a new one.

Nissan's Car lineup all look like each other. The Sentra, Altma and Maxima sedans are like going to Wendy's and they ask you if you would like a small, medium or large coke and fries with that. And did they take the front clip of an Altima Sedan and put it on a Z and call it a Altima Coupe. Damn with this type of continuity between models it should reduce supplier costs. No wonder they are falling behind, again.

Plastics people, that's what I mean by cheap, sure they have buttons I will give them that but that hard GM plastic has to go. Look inside any current Acura vechicle and you won't see any hard plastics, except maybe the footwell areas. The TL is a perfect example of a well laid out interior.
