Looks like everyone is catching on to this whole idea of introducing the hot version of a new body style first and the more pedestrian versions later.
Seems to make good business sense to me. In the luxury sector anyway, the "must have it" types have the cash to "get it" so why not "give it" to them? Ahem.

The E-Class AMG's have always been my favorite car. Granted they aren't a "pure" a track type car as the M5, but for upper end performance with nice luxury, that combination can't be beat. I will still never forget the E55 I had a chance to drive, the engine would throw you back in your seat, still offering more even as it passed 145 MPH, yet still offered the nice leather seats and wood interiors that MB does a good job on.
(just for reference I love extreme sport-luxury sedans, but I think I personally lean more towards luxury than sport, whereas most people like sport over luxury)

525hp eh? It looks like the hp war will roll on for another year or so in Germany. Audi will be next with the all new RS6. Rumored to have 612hp with it's bi-turbo V10. The "official" rating will be more like 570-575 in the brochures but 612 will be more the actual. Given the torque of twin turbos peaking at over 500lbs/ft at a super low 2000 rpm and you'd better hold on to your lederhosen. It'll be one wild ride.

The RS6 will have 579 hp DIN.(the only real measure imo) That's a fact. Read my article about it.

Why wont AMG go ahead and develop a high-revving V10 to put in the next-generation AMG cars? M and RS have had one for a while now, it seems like AMG could add two more cylinders just for the heck of it.

Merc is still using a little different engine building philosophy than the rest. It's somewhat similar to that of American car builders. Maybe some "Chrysler" DNA has somehow found it's way into Mercedes. And that philosophy is..................................
There is no replacement for displacement!

Beautiful! The car seems to be very promising. However, if I had to nit-pick I would say the only thing I dont like (seems out of place for a Mercedes)is that hoffmeister kink. Im sure if they went with it's because it will actually look good. Time will tell.

news for neverfollow Audi is a POS rebadged VW, wannabe BMW, and a nonfactor in the US auto market the largest market in the world. Funny that Audi has the Neverfollow motto yet all Audi is imitation luxury, that attempts to follow BMW blueprints and BMW business plans.

Audi used to be pitiful but not today. Today it offers the best value among German luxury cars. I had 3 miserable Audis in the eighties and gave up on that brand only to return recently. All the elctrical problems that plagued me before are gone now and my A6 Quattro is virtually unstoppable in even the worst winter storms.

Of course Audi is a bullshit brand Larry, they are only going to be the second best selling premium luxury car manufacturer in the world behind only BMW and ahead of Mercedes-Benz.

LArry meant to say that BMW is following Audi blueprints by dropping a V8 with 414 horsepower in the new M3 that kicked the competition to the curb when it came with a V6 in E46 form.

This horse power war is going crazy! if a sport sedan is making this much, then that puts more pressure on the super cars, not many of them make in the 600 hps and if they do, they're $300k+
What is all this power for really and what percentage of it is used in real life vs. what you pay for?

Cars like this are not "need" purchases. These are "want" purchases. Many just want the braggin rights just to say they have one. It gives owners of them a certain level of "street cred".

That it? 525 hp? the current BMW M5 has 507 hp and the next BMW M5 will probably get more than that for sure.
And when the new M5 come out, it will have probably close 600 hp to stay ahead of it competitor. And doesn't the up and coming Audi RS5 has 575 hp?

I think 525 is too little. Should be more like 550ish. Hopefully!

I don't get it, their cheaper sibling the C63 AMG is get 457 hp with 450lb of torque. And their bigger brother only get get 525 hp? especially when Audi is coming out and fast with the RS5 with 575 hp? And what about up and coming new M5? it will probably have 550+ hp, hopefully it will come out soon.
And if Lexus do decide to make the Lexus GS-F, rumor to have 550hp as well.
I guess all this horse power war will force the supercars league, Lambo, Ferrari, Bentley, and Aston Martin to up their horse power as well. Because I think it be really embrass if you drive Lambo Gallardo and can keep up with BMW or Audi. No offense intended.

The "up and coming" M5 will probably be released in about 2012...Merc don't need to be quite that far ahead of the game.
And 525hp is a lot of hp...

i don't think that audi is going to surpass mercedes in the global race. i think in a couple years mercedes will be back in the lead ahead of bmw as many editorials have predicted. also 525 in the e63 will be just fine. the current e63amg can outrun the m5 and s6. as far as audi's rs goes it doesn't really compete with the regular m and amg. but im almost positive that when the rs6 does come out with 570hp or so mercedes will probably have an e63 black series in the works.
