DaimlerChrysler's Mercedes Profits Nearly Double
The Mercedes Car Group of DaimlerChrysler AG saw its pretax profit nearly double in the second quarter, the German-American automaker said today. The company said the Mercedes unit earned $1.65 billion in pretax profit in the second quarter. Second-quarter sales rose slightly to $17.26 billion.

The company did not report results from the Chrysler Group and Chrysler Financial because of their impending sale. DaimlerChrysler provided no update on the deal.

the vast majority of my friends and family drive german (S, E, SL, GL, 3/5/7 series, 911, boxster, A4/A6/S8 to name a few). and i can't recall any horror stories similar to the ones you lexus guys are always telling about mercedes/bmw/audi.

mercedes raided the pensions of chrysler which was in the billions, then once that was done they needed an excuse to get out. if you'd've watched the move "Wall St." you'd understand. that's life...
