Ford posts surprise $750m profit for Q2

Ford has reported a surprise profit of $750 million for the second-quarter, which comes after seven consecutive quarters in the red. Reasons cited for the positive result include recent cost-cutting and an improvement in the Blue Oval’s core automotive operations.

That is a bit of a pleasant surprise.

Yesterday many stated that they anticipate a loss on the order of a few hundred million dollars.

Apparently Mullally has not been screwing around.

One needs to carefully read all the footnotes in financial statements. it is relatively easy for accountants to shift profits from one period to another. I won't buy any F stock until I see a couple more "good" quarters and some serious improvements in Ford's model lineup. GM is still a better gamble in my opinion.

Very good news. I hope the books were not "cooked" and this is a real reporting. If they continue this, they may be ok after all, but they have a long way to go-a long way indeed.

Where have you been for the last decade? We all know that Toyota is making more money than they can spend.. I'm actually surprised this comment is the only negative one about Ford... FYI, it is Very Good for the economy... Ford and GM account for more jobs than any other industry. For every 1 job at Ford or GM, there are 6-8 jobs created to support what that person is doing. Our economy is screwed if either one fails. Their success/failure will affect just about every American citizen in some way. Think about it and give them a chance. With all of the problems in the world, I don't believe so much negative energy should be spent worrying about bashing american cars. I think most people driving foreign cars bash domestics so much in order to not feel so bad about not supporting their own country's economy.....

Yes it does, but even without the Aston sale, Ford still posts a $250 million dollar profit (thereabout $250 million).

Good Job Ford, however Ford still needs serious improvements in their interior departments. Simple little things could help save this company.
