This should do quite well for Audi. I would expect this to fit neatly within their lineup.

It will be interesting to see how it compares to the X5 and the Porsche.

I do not think this car is in the same category as the X5. I think the Q7 is somewhat comparable to the X5 -due mainly to its 3rd row seating- and the Q5 is in between the X3 and X5 - it seems that the Q5 is larger than the X3. Finally, the Q3 would fit under or similar to the X3.

The Q5 is a good match to the FX due to its class leading handling and sportiness and not the X3. Cayenne is also a good match, IMO.

MeanVulcan, you are right--I was thinking backward. I did mean the X3

There are very few vehicles of this type that have useful 3rd row seats. The Q7 is a notable exception. It is far too difficult to get into the third row in the X5 and I recall that the third row in the original Chrysler Pacifica was a total joke. At least Audi gives you the option to delete the third row seats in the Q7. I'd rather have the extra luggage space myself. I would never take the chance of getting rear-endeed while my grandchildren are in the third row.

The SUV market is growing stronger in Europe. Much more than expected. For those who think the Q7 is too big both in Europe and the US, this product will satisfy on both continents. It should do very well. I just hope the 3.0TDI will be available from the start in the US.

Another SUV.
When will the mfgs. stop making them.

They will stop making them when people stop having so many kids and when global warming eliminates slippery snow and ice. In the meantime, a 4x4 or AWD vehicle is a necessity for many families. If you are single, you can easily get away with a small sports car or similar vehicle.

I live in Phoenix and plenty of people still drive them here.
