Proposed Democrat Farm Bill Provision May Inadvertently Tax Import Makers

The import-brand auto dealers' association sounded an alarm today over a planned addition to the farm bill now in the House.

Yes, the farm bill.

House Democratic leaders plan to insert a provision that would increase taxes on U.S. subsidiaries of overseas-based corporations, said Cody Lusk, president of the American International Automobile Dealers Association.

Although the provision is not aimed at automakers, it would hit the U.S. arms of Toyota, Honda, Volkswagen and other companies, Lusk said.

"Democrat" is not the accepted adjective in this title, unless you are Tony Snow or Bill O'Reilly. "Democrat" is a noun. The correct word you should be using is "Democratic," (as in the line from the article "House Democratic leaders....")

This has nothing to do my gripes with 009's usual cheery headlines, as I am not even sure who wrote the headline. I also know that headlines are not intended to be grammatically correct, as they are brief titles, not sentences. But in this case, the incorrect use of Democrat instead of Democratic is a partisan tactic to disassociate the Democratic party with the concept of being democratic.

And before anyone screams that this is a car site, not a politics site, I think it is painfully clear how much the two are inextricably combined.

Anyway, this news is about as shocking as the news about Lindsay Lohan. The Democratics love to tax, as much as she loves to get her pic taken at the local PD.

Insertion of unrelated provisions into impending legislation should be against the rules. It is nothing short of political blackmail i.e. "we won't pass this bill unless you also accept the other stuff we have inserted."

I believe that is one of the single most important things that needs addressed in this country. There is a bit more going on as well, than just political blackmail. Some of these are actually never really appoved by Congress but end up in the bills anyway.

At least Bush has come out and stated that this is a problem that needs addressed. I think it should be illegal. Of course you could accuse him of some partisanship given on the Citizens Against Goverment Waste scorecard of the 100 people in the 109th Senate if you rank their scores for taxpayer friendliness the first Democrat is number 46.

I could not find scorecards for previous congresses.
