If only this were a list based on actual sales numbers, instead of the very selective user-base Forbes.com has.

If it were on US sales numbers Lexus would be on top
If global then BMW would be there.

forbes has a an impressive demographic...very affluent business leaders. and those individuals still lean toward the leaders of the luxury segment: BMW and mercedes.

Last time I looked Lexus sold cars other that the LS460.. I might be wrong, but I bet that could be the reason.

the S-class, 7 and LS may be 'competitors' according to size and position in their respective line-ups.

but in terms of price (which is what it often boils down to in the real world) they are in different segments.

fact is the S550 rolls off the lot at around $100K well equipped (or more if you go nuts with options). that's $30,000 more than the average LS. guess what, more expensive cars sell lower volume.

by your logic, an LS that sells 2,500/month is better than a bentley continental sedan too since the bentley only sells 200/month.

the S550 is more comparable to the LS600h which sells a whopping 180 a month.

Um, the LS easily competes with Bentley or Rolls Royce and offers more for the money too.

I'm not a big Forbes list fan in so far as cars are concerned; but in the same breath I'll say where there is smoke, there is fire. Forbes, IMO, only looks at $'s and "coolness" factors not performance, reliability, not even bang for buck. I'm iffy on this one at best. What I'm trying to say is I don't care for Forbes's set of investigative prioritys or accountability for said figures.

It not surprising to me that the TL is on the list lets not forget during its redesign period it was the #1 selling luxury car in the US for 2 years straight. Also it's based price is over many entry level cars so there is nothing cheap about it.

not really sure how FobesAutos came up with this ranking. The article does not explain how they rank them at all, or am I missing something here? I will agree with bimmermike2. I find it very disturbing to know Forbes will publish an article like this. Judging from the title of this posting, I would assume that the ranking is based on the sales figure on the 2nd quarter of this year.

They came up with it by charting the cars that are researched through them just like Edmunds and Yahoo do when they post similar lists.

lexus sales: 400k globally
bmw: 1.3MM
mercedes: 1.2MM

Lexus sales dropped 17% in Europe first half of the year.

Ermm, i assume you've never been to Europe. Because i live here, and are seeing ever so slightly more models. And if i do see them, it tends to be the IS, which is the entry model. Those with the real money still buy German and always will.

Remember the Lexus ES350 will never be part of this class since it's an upgraded Camry.

When will you people in Uncle Sams land understand lexus is NOT in the same class as MB,BMW and Co, I'm sick and tired of hearing the same stuff about lexus being in the same class and it seems that it always comes from the same people.
I believe lexus has full time chatters employed talking their rubbish about lexus.
The fact remains lexus is only a good value car, but so is Honda's, nissans and all the other Jap cars, good and cheap.

But Benz and Co are market leader that are always the choice of the super rich a tradition built on works of ART in Motoring. Take the new CL, simply stunning in every way, the SL,S550,CLS, stunning, Audi R8,S5 ...stunning, all BM's,Bently’s,Porsches,RR, all stunning.

I never hear lexus mentioned any where else as I hear it on autopsies, and it always blows my mind, for heaven sake it’s only a 4 door family car, so boring.

Where the hell is Audi? Never follow?

Since this is an American publication and thus an American opinion poll, it doesn't surprize me that Audi is not on this list.

It takes years for Americans to catch on to fashion trends that the rest of the world latched onto years ago. Since Audi's popularity has only just begun in the US, we are only recognized by the few, dare I say, "international jet set croud". When speaking about the US general population as a whole, it takes much longer for mass popularity to build up that kind of steam.
