2009 Infiniti FX37 and FX50 Preview

2009 Infiniti FX37 and FX50 Preview
At 2008 Geneva Motor Show, Infiniti will unveil completely redesigned FX. The FX will compete with Volkswagen Touareg, Porsche Cayenne and Lexus RX.

The 2009 FX will be available in two different choices: the FX37 and the FX50. As you suspect already one will be powered by a 3.7 liter and the other by a 5.0 liter engine.

The FX37 wil be powered by the same 3.7 liter VQ-series V6 engine engine used in the G37 Coupe and will deliver 300 hp. The FX50 will be powered by a 5.0 liter engine with an output of 390 hp and 369 lbs-ft.

Lexus also has a 5 litre V8 in their LS hybrid that is equally powerful.

Seriously going to dump the RX for this.

The new, more powerful RX is supposed to be shown in Tokyo around October. I would hold out to see this first before jumping all over the Infiniti.

The RX is a Toyota Highlander and is more of a bread and butter SUV, still good, just a little plain. The FX caters to those who will want a it of sport with their SUV. Both are excellent choices, so you can't go wrong either way.

the 5 liter v8 making 390hp. doesn't make sense. They have the 3.7 liter which makes 330hp in the G37, only making 300hp in the FX37 and the old FX45 engine makes about 315hp with 4.6 liter, that means it should be 350hp with 5 liters.

A lot more weight than a G37.

Nice, very nice, and a sweet interior, good price points. Drove one for a few hours a year or so ago. Nice and firm for a not so big vehicle. I like it but have no use for it. Don't need all that space, way too big.

I would rather have a GMC TYPHOON.

May I ask why are you a "real" American?

(as opposed to those fake Americans who stalk the streets. They're not actually Americans, they're actors in disguise).

What is a GMC Typhoon anyway?

Actually GMC Typhoon is an SUV build in 92-93. It had a V6 4.3 L with a turbocharger that produced around 280hp. The GMC Syclone was the pick up version and it was on sale prior to the Typhoon. 0-60 time was 5.3 seconds.

what's so surprising about seeing Porsche in there? you do realize that VW = Porsche. It's the same company. Notice how expensive that Toureag is for a VW? Because it's basically a rebadged Porsche.

With the exception of the highest end Cayene, the two vehicles are pretty much the same aside from the front end.

It will probably show up with 400HP in the FX50. With it being lighter than the outgoing model it should be a rocket, especially with the extra 35lb/ft of torque! The current FX45 does 0-60 in 6.1 seconds, this one should be 5.5 seconds or less! I can't wait!
Regarding the FX37 it makes sense that it makes 300hp not 330 like the G37. They will probably gear the motor to have a lower redline and more torque. The FX is heavier than the G coupe therefore it needs more torque to put down some good numbers. Why do you think the previous Generation G coupe and Sedan made more horsepower in the six speed and less in the auto? The auto has a torque robbing converter, making more HP and giving up low end torque in the process would ultimately cost the autos alot of low end acceleration loss. The manuals made 293hp, and the autos 275hp...the torque of the manual was 258lb/ft vs 268lb/ft in the auto. The Auto made 75% of its peak torque @ 2,000 rpm, the manual had to get 3100 rpm for the same torque. The manual had a 7,000rpm redline, the auto 6,600rpm. Besides the FX35 and FX45 did not have a big enough difference in horsepower to warranty the extra cost of the V8. A 100hp difference will make people's buying decision easier.
Can't wait for either, the FX is a horney looking vehicle and has totally revolutionized the Crossover SUV design theme. While the FX looks like a Bionic Cheetah, the Cayenne looks like a Pregnant 911 thats overdue.

and once again the first FX45 came with only 315hp not the 340hp of the Q45, so I expect the new FX50 to have less HP than its sedan counterpart too.

I love the current FX, and IMO is one of the best looking SUVs on the road bar none! As for those sketches, I doubt those are of the next FX, they misspelled Infiniti! LOL!! Used a Y... "Inifinty FX" I don't think Nissan would have made a blunder like that. But I do not doubt the next one will be a sleek evolution of the current one. I have no need for an SUV cause if I did, the FX would be it!

I was waiting for someone to catch that...I HATE when people spell Infiniti wrong...especially people selling them in the paper.

This looks sweet. What I'm most excited about is the engine, not the FX. This means the next flagship (Q50, anyone?) will have nearly 400hp - as well as an M50 in 2009.

An "M50" will rock. Let's hope Infiniti can get it together and come out with a "Q50" that can compete this time. Those gatling-gun headlights were so cool, if only the dynamics of the car were as well...

Stick the the facts
1. The FX NEVER won any comparos vs the X5 or Cayenne
2. It never met sales targets
3. It was useless and unluxurious. It does handle well for a useless SUV.
4. Sales are in the toilet AFTER the refresh. Sales went down AFTER a refresh
5. Some like its looks, most think its ugly as sin.
6. Why are people excited about the obvious? A new vehicle with the same engines?

FX is the best looking SUV, Infiniti don't have the name like BMW, or Lexus to sell this kind of vehicle. but they are gaining now. If this was from BMW or Lexus it would be a great hit, it could sell like anything, since it is a Infiniti they can't sell
but we hope it will sell godd next time around
i like the new one much better
and no third row seat at all

I don't find the FX appealing, as one of the advantages of SUV's over cars is supposed to be their utility. I am glad manufacturers continue to make unique vehicle however. We have way to many me too vehicles coming out and having Infiniti refine thier "Bionic Cheetah" is good for enthusiasts.

If I were to buy the new FX, it would take such a long time for me to decide on whether I want the big fat torquee (torquey?) V-8 or the V-6 that sounds incredible. The V-8 has to be really really really REALLY good for me to buy it over the equally good
V-6!
