On the car I agree with him. Mercedes new Comand system nails every other system out there. It's just brilliant.

Sevor, if you read the article Clarkson didn't say he liked the new COMAND system, he said he preferred the OLD way of doing things in the Benz. From owning a few of them he was used to how things worked and in the new one it seemed like they stole iDrive from BMW for the new one.

As for the rest of the comparison, what little there was, he just said he thought the 3-series was "dreary" (whatever that means) and likes the C more. No surprise there, he never really says much good about BMW anyway, and he owns Benz's. Not everyone is going to like the C more than the 3 and not everyone is going to like the 3 more than the C. Different strokes for different folks.

Agree that this is a really stupid article but Mercedes also displays some traits of neurological deficiency for making their cars too highly computerized. Overly computerized cars are no fun to drive and add to reliability and maintenance cost issues. Car manufacturers really screw you if any of your vehicle's computer systems fail when you are out of warranty. Automotive computer chips are responsible for unpredictable warning light behavior on many vehicles. I still like the motto KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID.

Im w/ ennoraks rant. who the hell needs tht unnessecary crap? I want simplicity! not confusion!!! bmw, MB and audi makes great cars, but those idrive/mmi/comand contraptions are BOGUS. have you seen japanese and american rivals? the infiniti M for example, nice interior, all buttons for nessecary operations of the features are there. may not drive like a beemer, but they dont need those contraptions to find a/c. not to mention you'll lose concentration to the systems rather than doing the driving.

LArry has a bias towards BMW. If there is any article (of which there have been plenty recently) where a respective BMW, most notably the new M3 with V8 loses to a respective Audi, (the RS4) Larry says the BMW is better.

He will go on to say that the Audi RS4 drivers can't afford the BMW M3 although thye paid MORE than the M3 for their Audi.

Additionally, Larry will say that the Audi is a piece of junk that is trying to copy BMW, although Audi will never switch to BMWs RWD platform and will instead always use its Quattro AWD system as standard on its RS models as well as R8 sportscar.

blah blah blah, the RS4 sedan costs MORE than the M3 Coupe, including the new one (and the M3 sedan will be less still, while the RS5 is even more). And while there haven't really been any head to head comparison tests in magazines here in the U.S. yet plenty of magazines have alluded to the fact that the M3 performs better and is quicker than the RS4.

One day maybe I'll figure out why in the minds of people on this site both cars aren't allowed to be great. Probably not though.

I'll have to say the interiors on the lowend 3's are dreary (but you guys never see 316,318,320 in the US)as compared to the C but that being said he is biased to British cars first, then Euro (sort of like how you guys are either German or Lexus). You will almost never see a good opinion of a Japanese car for instance and only one good review of a Korean hatch. He is very entertaining.

There is no difference between a 316 (e46) and 330 (e46) i own a 316, and the materiels is the same in both cars, here i talk plastic materiels, the cloth on the seats are dirrent. The only visible difference is that on my 316 the doorhandles and the handle on the trunk are black not colored.

Clarkson, 1) is bias towards the british cars, Jaguar and Land Rover and 2) Has a slight grudge towards BMW. I read an issue of the Top Gear magazine and looked his car ratings on a scale 1 to 20, Jaguar XKR, and XJ8 got 17/20, the XKRcoupe is good but not that good it is not a Ferrari F430. Land Rover and Aston Martin as well get a home team advantage in his auto reviews. Also he despises the Bangle style BMWs, yet likes the grandpa styled Jaguar sedans.

Has Clarkson driven the IS350 yet? I am sure he'll like it better.

See if you can convince Toyota to actually sell it there first.

The IS350 is too small for the price they want for it and RWD with LSD is only available on the IS350 Sport. The IS does have surprisingly comfortable front seats however.

But when he test drove the M5 it made him shut up, totally. He was bashing it in the whole review and then ends it by saying its one of the greatest cars he has ever driven, almost better than an F430. :)

Jeremy Clarkson is a fool. He's funny but some of his opinions border on retarded.

Please remember - Jeremy is a journalist first, a car reviewer second.

He always rambles on for ages, then says something about the car, and in his Top Gear article (just 1 each month), he doesn't review cars at all, he talks about the motoring world in some form.

Got to love his articles though people...they make me laugh, be it his wit or his totally biased opinions. So what if he likes the Merc and not the Bimmer or that he ADORES Jags over anything Japanese. Not everyone will like it, but some can appreciate his crazy journalism in the automotive industry. It makes for entertaining reading for sure.

there was an episode, where he was comparing the cars of the US to tht of the UK. by competing w/ one another, he does an offroad test. RR vs. H2 vs. Escalade. funny vid. appreciate it if someone found it.

Those Dumb people who expect serious automotive talk from Clarkson are "dreary" themselves. His show is all about automotive passion, he expresses what he feels in a very biased way (he expresses what he likes and dislikes in a clear manner) and does not give a damn if he offends a BMW enthusiast or some other bloke. Unlike auto journalism in places like US, British journalists make no secrets of their preferences and certainly unlike in US (where you can suit anybody for anything) britissh journalists experience more freedom without concern of reaction to comments, because media in Europe is very much open minded rather than being constricted and converging like in the US. And anyway Clarkson calls the 3 series "dreary", and that means that he thinks that the styling is too dull and the car is just too common (in Britain there were more sales of 3 series than Ford Mondeo). Please company enthusiasts (not general car enthusiasts who will like a good car regardless of company origin) like BMW, and Lexus freaks stop complaining about other peoples' dislike for cars from the companies that you guys seem to idolize like your personal laptops, why not just counter argue by putting up the good points of your preferred companies rather than whining about why somebody else's comments are completely dishonoring an hurting to your sheer respect for your preferred company. And i really have no respect for German and Japanese companies because they make cars to get a share of every market segment, and that makes them quite not exclusive, not quite unreachable and mystical like brands of Italian origin like Ferrari, or Lamborghinis. Some 30 years ago Mercs, and BMWs made only exclusive high end cars, and that made them special but now they have become more like toyota and Ford, just producers of mainstream cars, nothing exclusive.

Jeremy Clarkson creditability is worthless. Personally I wonder if he's addicted to prescription drugs. One minute he hates the M5 and the next he has the car on his all time best list. This guy once praised BMW's now he thinks they are a bunch of snobs.
