GM posts $891 million profit for 2Q

General Motors has beat market expectations by posting a $891 million profit for the second quarter, stark contrast to the $3.4 billion loss it made in the same period only one year ago. This was the third straight quarter of profits for GM, which cited improve sales in new markets as the main reason for the improvement.

WOW..GM does better (not well, but better) and only two comments?? Either way, congrats to GM for making some serious strides. Looks like we have at least one American company that's serious about making a comeback.

There was a quick rumor at one time, but I'm not sold on Cerberus ability to revive the dinosaur the way Iococa did. I think GM will be just fine, Ford aint going anywhere(but they have some VERY rough waters ahead), and Chrysler is the big question mark. Unless Chrysler can upgrade its line and restructure itself in half the time it would normally take, then it is in deep shit and prime for a takeover in 10 years.

I think it'd be highly unwise for GM or Ford to take on any new acquisitions now or in the near future. We see Ford already trying to unload every brand they acquired, and with GM, their main criticism has always been a flood of marketshare with too many brands.

Chrysler will bounce back in due time, especially now that Mercedes is done leeching their blood...

GM has the best product and the best prospects of the big 3 right now. The other two should just get out now and concede to GM. it will be less painful. This is inevitable. With Ford and Chrysler's market share, GM will once again be healthy and the world's largest carmaker.

Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep have a pretty good (and getting better) product offering. With a little work and less corner-cutting, they will be fine.

Chrysler uses a little bit too much plastic but it is well executed. Their cars look better in person than they do in advertisments and on the internet.
