BMW X5 GETS IT RIGHT: Luxury SUV a big improvement from earlier generation

The X5 has clearly been touched by an angel. There's no earthly explanation for a vehicle making such an immense improvement from one generation to the next.

The first X5, which went on sale seven years ago, was a truck. It bore a BMW badge but offered little of the nimble handling and eager response that marks the Bavarian brand's cars.

The new X5, despite growing significantly larger and heavier, has a light-footed feel and curve-carving handling that belie its size.


Prices for the 2007 X5 start at $45,900 for a 265-horsepower 3.0si model powered by a 3.0-liter straight-six engine. The 4.8-liter V8 350-horsepower 4.8i has a $54,500 base price. All-wheel-drive is standard.

I tested a well-equipped X5 4.8i with a $71,245 sticker price. All prices exclude destination charges.

The X5 4.8i competes with luxury SUVs like the Audi Q7, Cadillac SRX, Lexus GX 470 and Mercedes-Benz M-class.

The original X5 was praised for its handling when it originally arrived on the scene, what are they talking about?

I've owned both the orginial E53 X5, and I currently own the 2007 E70 X5, and I love them both. Both are excellent driving vehicles, I couldn't be happier.

Diesel will come to the X5 before the N54 engine will.

Confirmed from BMW " the 5 sseries will not be getting a diesel in the U.S., however the 3 and the X5 are the most likely candidates."

I will respond to you but I will not resort to the low-level disrespectful comments.
1. I am sure if you take a few minutes to ponder over what I wrote- it may perhaps enlighten you on the possibility of the X5 having the N54B30O1 engine before the N54D30O1 engine.
2. The 5 series already have the N54B30O1 engine in it without the N54D30O1 engine in the US.
3. Europe/Australia/Asia already have the X5 with N52D30O1 engine.

Perhaps you need to think and get clarifications before you write down uncomplimentary words.

The 5 series will get both the N54D30O1 and N52D30O1 engines first before the X5,X3 and 3er.
The 5er will be the first BMW to have the diesel engines in US.
Check with your BMW source if you truly have any.
