First photos of the new Infiniti G37 coupe instruments at night

Whenever I'm in the market for a car one of the most important things to me during my research is finding photos.

LOTS of photos...

I want to see EVERYTHING.

Hence, my well known obsession of photographing everything! ;)

I figure if I'm going to spend that kind of money on these rides I'd better d my homework so I don't make a mistake or buy something I will hate later.

By the way, if you were to ask me what the biggest mistakes people make when they buy a car is that they do not do their research and homework before their purchase.

And that's why so many people want out soon after they purchase their car.

Usually, when I'm searching for photos of cars it's easy to find the standard stuff.

But it's the little things I like to find like shots of the interior taken at night so you see how the car lights up.

It gives you a totally different perspective.

So here's your first look at the new 2008 Infiniti G37 coupe's instruments lit up at night.

theres just something wrong with a luxury car that still uses knobs to set the temperature of the aircon.

i guess the blue lights are better than the orange ones in the regular G35. the metalic stuff needs help, as does the shifter. it looks too cheaply made. i think some wood would be a nice touch.

How does a knob determine a car is a luxury car? Some would rather turn a knob than hit a button 5 times to set the a/c lower. It's much quicker and practical.

As for the grey aluminum/metalic painted plastic whatever it is it needs to go. It needs some aluminum like the ones from the 3 series. As for wood it needs dark wood.

knobs are better, they are much faster than a button. I don't have to hold down the button for 10 secs to get the temperature from hot to cold on those days.

I prefer the knob approach myself as I like infinitely variable settings and reliable switches. Digital settings are in increments and digital circuitry is only as reliable as the cheap automotive chips employed in these circuits. I can fix a good old analog circuit myself but have to replace a lot of overpriced automotive digital components if something goes wrong with the new-fangled digital stuff on cars these days.

This blue looks far better than the amber lighting used in the previous generation. Also, those of you who continously bash the metallic trim, its not cheap painted plastic. It actually has a pattern to mimick Japanese "washi" paper. Why is that cool? Because Infiniti's are made in Japan. Along with their advertising, Nissan is expressing Infiniti's roots with pride. They are a Japanese automaker, and that's who they want to be. This is so refreshing and should be respected due to the fact that every other brand always says "euro-sedan" "euro-inspired" etc, etc.

German fans should appreciate that the G, and Infiniti is proud of what it is. You dont have to like it, to each his own, but you should respect it.

Lighting plays a huge factor in the interior mood. One of my favorites is Land Rover. I love the all-green lighting, which does NOT resemble the cheap looking green that was in practically every car in the 90's...its much more, well, 'Land Rover-ish'.

I like a good instrument panel myself -- it must be the airplane guy in me. Did you know that, as eyes age, they usually focus better on blue and green light than on red light. That newer electroluminescent instrument panel lighting used these dasy is real easy on the eyes at night. BTW, I recall that Lockheed used blue-filtered white lighting on instruments in some military aircraft while U.S. submarines used red lighting for instruments. I recall also that certain Chrysler cars in the seventies also used blue-filtered white lighting for instruments but this was back in the days of bulbs and not the vastly improved electroluminescent stuff we have today.

That's your opinion. I like both interiors. I like the gauges better on the IS, but it also mixes the blue/white with green on the console (which MB also does, white gauges with amber on the console) I like the more consistent, all-one color look.

Glover, the Lexus IS350 has the best interior in this class by far followed by the Audi (far behind though). The Infiniti interior is terribly cheap but better than the C class or 3 series and the CTS.

The IS's interior is far cheaper to the touch and to look at than the inside of an Audi A4. The Lexus is also terribly cramped. I'm not a super-tall guy, but had trouble getting in and out of that car at the dealership.

Lexus may have high-quality interiors on other models, but the only vehicles I've noticed to be class-leading are... actually, none of them. I'll rate the best in each class, interiors:

Entry-level: Audi A4

Mid-size: Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Full-size: Audi A8/Mercedes-Benz S-Class

Mid-sized SUV: BMW X5

Full-sized SUV: LR Range Rover/Mercedes-Benz GL-Class

Sporty cars: BMW 6 Series (no, I'm not kidding- go sit in one)

With reference to M35MT's comment below, I'd like to kow what you guys think of the analog clock in the current S-class. I think it looks like an el cheapo $12 Chinese import with excessive chrome. I can't believe that the hour markings and hands are all chrome. It's about time Mercedes hired someone who used to work at Breguet to design its automotive analog clocks.

I was in fact riding in my friend's '03 G35 today, and as good as a car it is, the last-gen G's interior is by far the crappiest in that price bracket. The plastics feel more plasticky than ever, the wood grain, which once felt real, is now obviously fake and the leather has not held up well. I hope the new one is a huge improvement- I haven't sat in it yet.

Why did bulldogz get de-boosted? He isn't a Lexus hater and was just telling the truth. Not a single Lexus on the market--not even the LS--has real metal trim on the interior. My A3 has real aluminum, and it's actually quite elegant. It comes with the Premium Package, which still leaves the price under $30,000. Audi attention to detail reigns supreme.

Yeah, what's with Infiniti? The new G series basically looks very similar in design to the previous generation. That design is 5 years old. The taillights have a similar design and the overall shape and size is the same. In my opinion, the new G look cheaper than the previous generation. Oh well.

Also, the new Altima looks very similar to the previous gen. Altima. They both have similar forms--lights, shape, flat bumper in the rear. The major differnces would be the new interior that reminds me of a Pontiac--yuck. What's going on with Nissan? There going back to their boring design roots of the 90's.

GS300, really, what do you know that we don't? The interiors of the two cars are virtually identical. The obvious difference is the lack of rear doors and truly usable rear seats.

You seem to be hopelessly biased towards Japanese brands lately. This interior is not what you make it out to be- not bad, but not great, either. I agree with froggy780 in that Nissan/Infiniti have been too conservative in their recent design approach, which is magnified by the fact that their last batch of vehicles were so different from previous versions. The new G is too evolutionary; the Altima, even more so. The fact that the two look so much alike is just the cherry on top.

It depends on how much plastic is in a car. For instance, both the Audi A8 and Mercedes-Benz S-Class employ minimal amounts of plastic, each stuffing their interiors with a lot of wood (A8), vinyl/metal (S-Class) and leather (both). But in less-expensive models such as the A4 and C-Class, high-quality plastic is perfectly acceptable, especially if it's as expensive-feeling as in the A4.

New cars want to be everything to everybody make sure you don't miss a trick or they won't buy it. A car that has nice sporty looks like this one needs a understated quality cabin of limited video game look and a true sports car of fine gauges,pecan woods,best leather of tight fit you can get and a simple knob control stereo and heating and cooling system with mid size Nav screeen with cover in the center of the dash.
Analog and Led are fine as long as they are not a distraction of a 747 read out. The clock sets the tempo of what this car should have, a true sports car dash with modern chips driving the system and limmited Vegas neon light look?

It may be "neanderthal technology," but the knob is an incredibly useful, effective, elegant solution in so many of today's electronics- not the least of which being cars. Every single brand I can think of uses knobs (or at least one) on the interiors of their vehicles. On the other hand, the button approach, which you say should have been used on this new Infiniti's stereo, is an unnecessary "improvement." Similar to iDrive, it's the answer to a question nobody asked. The previous-generation G35 had buttons instead of knobs for the stereo, but they fixed it for the refresh, because it just didn't work. They're very annoying.
