Mitsuoka Orochi, The Japanese Mutant Supercar

At first glace, the Mitsuoka Orochi may seem like the Japanese answer to Ferrari, but there’s an unflattering surprise under the hood, the car is powered by a Lexus 3.3-litre V6 engine.

Looks like a cat-fish and probably drives with as much gusto as a cat-fish trying to go somewhere on the insterstate in rush-hour traffic.

Yeah, that's a freaky cool looking car, but seriously 3.3L w/ a tranny from a SUV? Look, I don't care where you source your engine from (there are other Toyota engines that would probably be much better for the job, like the 2JZ) but if you're gonna be that outlandish, and least give it the equipment to back the looks up.

I agree. Using the same combo as Lotus did for their Elise (the 1.8l with a 6sp manual) is probably a lot more cost-effective and easily better for performance/fun-to-drive factor. An SUV tranny? Is it safe to say that this car is a tranny? Talk about mixed identities!

The catfish comment is not so far from the truth. This car is a bottle of Lemon Pepper and some batter short of a fish fry!

Actually...the rest of the car doesn't seem too bad...it's that front clip that seems to animated! I guess the engine choice was to make the car affordable.

This is what happens when the Japanese aren't copying everybody else and are designing cars with their own idea....

The Germans are known to copy a lot, especially from Toyota and Lexus.

whats up with the Subaru SVX-like side windows? Is it to increase visibility/aerodynamics like the SVX or a purely aesthetic engineering application?

It's a disgrace that a high quality and precision engineered engine like the Lexus 3.3 V6 has to power that ugly car. This masterpiece belongs in an ES or GS, not in that piece of trash.

Ugly car ... Disgusting in almost every aspect if it's look, no taste whatsoever. Don't even wanna start about the stupid engine. Next time they should try a 1.4L from Civic.

It only has pony power, but that is one of the best car designs I've seen out Japan in the past 10 years.
