Photo Rendering: Lexus IS Coupe and Hard-Top Convertible
“We are very excited about some of the upcoming developments for the IS Line, including the V8-powered IS-F and potentially, an IS coupe in the future.” Those are the words of John Roca, Lexus’ Australia division manager, during the milestone sale of 5,000 IS sedans sold.

So now that the Lexus IS coupe is confirmed, we are expecting a hard-top convertible variant in the works as well. That will give Lexus strong ground to compete against BMW’s 3-Series sedan, coupe and convertible lineup...

The car is not boring! Stop hating. This will be a BMW 335i killer. A shorter wheelbase means better handling. In short since the IS350 already kills the 335i on the track, the IS350 coupe is going to rape it over and over again. I love it!

Lexus!

the 335i styling keeps growing on me, it just kills me that it has no limited slip! After owning my turbo I am a boost junkie and hip to afm curves and the cheap power upgrades turbos supply. So sporting that inside tire spinning and spitting for traction as my perfect apex goes to waste makes me sad that BMW missed something so crucial :(

And the good thing about the IS coupe is that it wont look like the 3-serie.

The IS sedan doesn't look like the 3-series (and if it does, please note that the current IS came out before the current 3-series).

The photo rendering from last year of the Lexus IS coupe and convertible look way better than this for sure.

Lexus is taking it time in making the coupe and convertible is because they want it to a be an instant hit.

I think Lexus would be making a big mistake if they offered the new coupe without the 2.5L engine. I have an IS250 (please don't laugh) and I find the car to have more than adequate acceleration (not so with 3 passengers and full luggage). After all, BMW has their coupe with both the 328 and 335 twin-turbo.

I have been liking the recent Lexus products (LS, IS, ES, GS hybrid), and I'm sure the new IS variants are all very well, but for some reason my wife is still totally against Lexus vehicles. She has her heart set on a 335i convertible, so I'm not complaining, but if the IS350 CC were out right now, I would have to maker her look at that, too, just to make sure.

Good plan, S4. But if I were to choose between the IS convertible and the 335i convertible, shockingly, I'd take the 335i. I mean, look at how horrible that IS convertible is.

I didn't actually click the link, but I will now...

What's so horrible about that photoshop? The front-end could use a little tweaking for the two-door model (different headlamps, air dam), but otherwise, it's a very realistic rendering. The 335i is definitely sexier, but there's nothing wrong with this.

S4,

It's because your wife has the notion that European cars are better than Japanese cars. Like many out there who are old fashioned luxury mean's the 3 stars. That's a given fact. It's only in the US that so many have been sucked into the marketing that Toyota has hired to promote Lexus. Indeed they have done a great job in capturing the market here.

Anyways, if you grew up being told BMW, Jaguar, Mercedes were great cars you will mature thinking the other brands are inferior.

I grew up in a family with Mercedes but I grew out of that phase lol. I think Japanese cars are great cars but it just lacks the history like our beloved Europeans.

My suggestion is for you to take her to test drive both the IS and the 335. I mean both are perfectly fine cars to own. Both are respectable and of good quality. Can't go wrong. Tell her it's a win win situation! + the IS is cheaper too so convince her by saying you'll take her on a vacation with the money saved :)

To be honest, I have no problem with her buying the BMW. And also, the IS CC isn't even out yet (or confirmed), and will not be out by the time we're looking, if ever. I don't see any reason for her to buy an IS350 over the 335i, if that's what she wants. They're both RWD, have 300hp six-cylinder engines, are comfortable and stylish- it's just personal preference, and she prefers the BMW, which I'm fine with.

And don't worry, I won't have any trouble taking her on vacations, even if I do have to spend another $10,000. I'm leasing it, anyway. It just makes more sense for me to lease her car.

Does not look bad from the photo renderings. The BMW 3-Series coupe looks good, but the convertable does not equal it. The same will probabbly be true of the IS when, and if, it is produced.

That does not mean the E93 (3 Series convertible) is ugly, though. With the top down, it looks fantastic. Top up, I wouldn't expect it to match the coupe.

This is probably not going to completely match the 335i. But, the cars are targeting slightly different audiences. In addition, the 335i can easily top $55,000 with options and I doubt the IS will come close to that at all.

Lexus made thier car to compete with BMW. They make them look similar to BMW because of that reason. Lexus can spend less money and make thier car look better and performs better than BMW and if you guys think it's not true, you need to buy one and drive one.
