Time To Come Out Of The Closet: Are You An AutoSpies Junkie?

It is 3:30 AM and you lie there awake. Rather than roll over and go back to sleep, you jump up and go to the computer to see if that fan boy has flamed you again by insulting your manhood.

Somewhere deep down inside you know this guy is only 15 years old, still wet behind the ears, but he got the best of you with that last comment, and you just can't let it rest. To top if off 009 posted yet another article that you just have to respond to. You mutter “is this guy for real?” and the constant clatter of your keystrokes echoes down the hallway. You look up from the computer, and it is almost 8:00 AM already, and you are late for work! Again!

Rushing in the office door you sit down at your desk and rather than answering your emails, you are back on the site to see who flamed you and about what. Your desk is a mess, your missing deadlines, and the cat disappeared a week ago. But there is always a browser opened to AutoSpies. You wonder, where it went wrong. How could this be? What IS my wife’s name?

You my friend are suffering from the condition, “automobilus custodis addictus”, or in English, you are an AutoSpies Junkie. It is a common occurrence that we see it all the time, like an addict you crave the dialog, the quick jab and the sharp rebuttals. On the plus side you may actually learn a few things you never knew. But only if your boss knew how much time you were on this site, he would surely fire you. Your wife left a while back but you just can’t remember when. But for some reason the only thing fresh in your mind is the torque and horsepower ratings of the new Lexus IS-F.

Does this all sound a bit familiar?

We see a lot of you out there all of the time, and we really appreciate your dedication. But for the life of us, we can’t figure out how you do it. You seem to be around every corner never taking a breath before your next post. Our most dedicated fans never seem to take a break

So we have to ask: Are you an AutoSpies Junkie?

I confess to being an AutoSpies junkie as there is the occasional gem of wisdom to be found among the many smart-ass comments posted by teenagers, I never read any article originating from MotorAuthority as they still have not learned that dark blue letters on a black background make the front page of a website too difficult to read. I also skip over any spy photos that are heavily disguised teasers -- a bad form of marketing communications that sits negatively with me.

I got a chuckle out of the comment posted by Bmw8ter below as he probably works for a govrnment purchasing department or some outfit on contract with the government on a cost plus basis. I once worked for an aircraft company that had cost plus military contracts and they paid us overtime to shoot paper clips at an aircaft drawing on the wall using an elastic band on our fingers like a sling shot. Expediters at the same company were instructed to send a telegram to suppliers rather than make a telephone call in the same city because a telegram (this was back in the sixties) cost money and the company would be reimbursed by the government on a cost plus basis.

Yes... I admit, I am only 20, but I dont think that really affects my credibility as a car junkie and car fanatic. I have driven maaaaaany different top end cars including the bmw 745, e60 m5, 335i, 330i, and m3, and from mercedes a g55, clk500, c230, sl500, slk350, e55, e63, cls55, and s550, and from porsche the 2007 911S, along with every rental car that enterprise has to offer in my town... so I think I can submit credible comments and opinions that are based on real life experiences that I have had with these cars and others. Yes, I know I am really lucky to have the opportunity to drive these machines at such a young age, and some of you are probably thinking I am a punk ass spoiled kid, but when you put all that aside, you are left with someone who knows enough about cars to post intelligent and knowledge based comments regardless of his age. We are all car junkies here, young or old, and thats all that matters right?!

I respect that... it's much better than the response I usually get. As true enthusiests we must be happy for eachother and the toys that we have, or see, or the toys that we know some one else has. As long as everyone shares their experiences and posts lots of pictures I am happy and a bit envious myself at times. I will be sure to post pics and a review as soon as my new toy arrives. =]

Oh, you must tell me which is better (R8 or CLK63 BLK). I was considering selling the S4 and going all-out for an R8, but have decided against it for practical and financial reasons. I still do have to pay two kids through school this year, support a shop-loving wife and pay for my new house!

However, I do know that the R8 is easily the sexier, more interesting, more desirable of the two, but the CLK63 Black may have a better driving experience because of its power advantage. If you're interested, I would wait for the R8 V10 to have two more equal machines. The Audi is my clear favorite, not because I'm an Audi-lover, but just because the CLK63 Black doesn't excite me like a ground-up supercar such as the R8.

Yes, I agree wholeheartedly that the R8 is the sexier, more interesting, more desirable of the two, and in fact the one I wanted 100 times more. However, for the model year 2008, there will only be 200-300 (still rumors that there are going to be 100 more than the planned 200) and that means that every Audi dealership has wait lists with 10-30 names. I was actually first in my hometown last October, but it turns out that Audi didn’t think our dealer would sell enough cars, so they didn’t get certified to sell the R8. I went and called every dealership in Cali and the only one that said they’d get me a car was Pasadena. They claimed they were getting 28 cars and I was 14 on the list. It was only about 3 months ago, that, on a trip to LA, I decided to stop by and see what the progress was on the car. There I was hit with the depressing news that the dealership is only getting around 5. So that is my story with the R8. I am still on the list and the dealer says I should have a car by the end of next year. Ironically on that same trip I saw on Autospies that the CLK black was coming to the US so the moment I got back home I went to my local Benz dealer and put down a deposit. I was first on the list and now I have a build date of August 21st, so my car should be here by the 2nd week of September.

I spend atleast half of my workday browsing this site, and the other half browsing ebay, drinking heavily creamed coffee, and wasting time walking from office to office to view youtube videos and "shoot the sh*t" with the coworkers who talk a lot, until 5pm; all the while, when I should be writing time sensitive million dollar contracts for pieces of work to be performed.

I blame autospies for me having to lie about 10 times why a contract hadn't been issued. Of course I can't stay mad once the PM has left the room, because I go right back to autospies, coffee, and continuous bathroom breaks.

I thought to myself why i must look at this site constantly (like now, its like 2:15 am local time) and it dawned on me. Its not the the fact that im first to know about a new option package, seeing test mules go through their paces or even the strange little factoids such as the gayest cars. I realized its the fanboys...you know those acne faced 15 yr olds who cant even drive in a video game, let alone a real vehicle. Then I thought maybe there should be an age restriction or some kind of automotive IQ test that would even allow one to post. Then i realized that would take away from all of the fun of the site by seeing some Lexus fanboy attempt to make a comparison between the aging SC platform and the Bentley Brooklands by sating thatt the Lexus is better by way of higher sales and a retractable hardtop!!! But the fun doesnt stop there because there are Honda, Nissan, BMW, Mercedes, Toyota, etc... fanboys that are equally as ill informed and hard headed. Its not about the new active rear steer option, 8 speed tranny or even twin charged engine. Its about the passion these vehicles invoke in all of us. Every car gets the real enthusiest that little tickle no matter the badge on the trunklid. Im a fanboy too i suppose....one thats for the beauty of all things automotive.

For me, it depends on how good the articles are that day (or week). If they're interesting and have a lot of comments on them, then usually I'm an AutoSpies junkie. Otherwise, maybe 30 minutes a week at most.

It isn't that freedom of speech is curtailed when the speech turns to hate. Such stuff is covered under freedom of speech- the KKK has the right to spew hateful nonsense all they want.

The difference is the venue. There is no freedom of speech here- this board is private property. Ones right to freedom of speech in general does not supersede 001's rights as t owner of this website.

Yeah, I have been a user for many years, it gets real bad in the winter. In the winter I even find myself reading about electric cars.

i used to be a junkie on this site when we had to wait a week before new articles came out also the good ole days when there was a guy named 001Buster who would challenge everything you fanboys --and even 001 on several occassions-- wrote as he always defended Audi. Don't know where he went though it seems 009 has taken his place as official defender of Audi.

HONEST REVIEWS FOR CARS FROM the 00's especially 001 is the one of the few reasons i come to read Autospies now.

No...not really. I check out Germancarfans.com and Motorauthority.com first before coming here. I tend to see articles from those sites just reposted here anyway. Rarely do I see any real news from Autospies.com exclusively. The pop-up car advertisements have increased to the point of being overly annoying, IMO. The spy pics are entertaining if they actually came from autospies and not my other favorite sites.
