Toyota relaxes as Tundra sales start looking good

Who would have ever thought of that?!?

The title barely matches the article.

1. Toyota overspent half a billion dollars (!) over the budget on the plant in TX.

2. Even today they have hiring issues, trying to lure people from as far as Detroit. Think about the personnel cost (Ghosn, this may sound familiar to you too CA --> TN).

3. The Tundra has no diesel engine option (70% of full size pickups are sold diesel).

4. They had to recall 30,000 vehicles after the launch - I guess that when you buy a pickup for work, its really not a problem to return it for days for inspection/rebuild.

5. Good news: the management has yet another pet project that makes zero sense but acts as a penis enlarger in Japan.

Why are you making things up?

Hiring issues? says who?
70% of full size pick-ups ar diesels? Maybe heavy duty versions, but not regular trucks.
Recall???? Anybody else hear about that?

If you're going to go to the trouble of listing and even numbering your "facts," they should be a little more credible.

nowhere did 30 - 50,000 tundras have "bad motors."

only the 5.7L engines had a POTENTIAL problem. due to a supplier providing camshafts that were not properly hardened.

actual number of FAILURES: less than 30. for whose owners toyota did not merely replace the cams, but installed NEW ENGINES.

interesting how haters can SO EXAGGERATE minor issues.

I hate to say this but as a loyal GM Truck Buyer and Owner, I do like the looks of the CrewMax(Crewmax only, the extra cab and regualr cab are hideous) from Toyota except for the grille(tone it down a bit)and of course the dependability and service will be there behind it. However that does not mean that I will buy one. I like the looks and features of the Ford and Dodge trucks also but will still rather have a GM truck.

beg to differ, but i saw a standard cab new tundra the other day, 1st one to date.

it looked fine to me.

friends also bought a new 2000 tundra when it first came out. thoroughly researched the whole field (previous p/u was a chevy they kept almost 20 years).

they specifically wanted a std. cab, and had to go 360 miles to nearest city to track one down. std cab tundras apparently are not that popular and/or ordered much by dealers.

while it SORTA looks odd (for nowadays), it also looks like a REAL, working truck truck.

same for the '07 i saw. sleek and lean.

tastes change over time.

generally speaking, something novel may or may not appeal to most, initially. but the more it is seen, the greater it's acceptance.

i can recall when extended cabs were new (anyone else remember early Datsun King Cab commercials). now they are so popular and common, it is the standard cab that may "look odd" to some eyes.

crew cabs are still on an upward trend in gaining popularity.

imho, except in the case of work trucks, they are a fad for most buyers. useful for interior, lockable space, but how many do you see actually hauling 6 people? i suspect lotta people buy them ONLY because they're the BIGGEST, baddest body type.

i can appreciate their functionality, but aesthetically, they're awkward. (except for those whose thinking is "biggest is always best.")
