Peugeot to present 69MPG diesel-hybrid at Frankfurt

Toyota is on their 3rd or 4th generation hybrid, they have nothing to worry about especially from Peugeot. French cars are known to be very unreliable and have ugly and boring styling too. Toyota dominates over them.

The reason no carmaker will produce a hydrogen model anytime soon is because most people, including myself, wouldn't have the faintest clue where to fill up.

Well considering that this is the first generation of any diesel hybrid I consider it a success. Assuming that it's a 69 ave mpg that's 25% more efficient than the current Prius at 55 ave mpg. The Peugeot also emits 90 g/km compared to 104 g/km of the Prius. So that's a 10% decrease in emmissions. My numbers for the Prius are taken directly off Toyota's website and HybridSynergyDrive website.

Once suppliers start mass producing the parts and more people buy the cars, the production cost of the cars will go down and they'll make money. I'm sure the same thing happened with the Prius when it first came out.

And let me know when Toyota releases info on any future generations not actually in preproduction yet.

However you don't need to be too kind and use the window sticker of the Toyota Prius. Use the real world driving numbers from multiple site's that show the Prius at mid 30's in the city and mid 40's on the highway.

The up coming non-plug in Prius will have 100+mpg (UK), and the plug-in version will have 4 miles/kWh.

By the by...who is this Peugeot car manufacturer? I have never heard of them before. For you see I have had my head in the sand for the last couple decades. Also who are these Ferrari people I'm hearing about in Italy... and why do they like dancing horses?

which is where I assume you get your information. By their standards the prius here in the US should be close to the 100mpg mark as is. Even the author admidts the numbers are wrong in comparison to real world driving. And for those who think driving in Japan (and lets say Tokyo where most of your cars are) is different than any other major metropolitan city...your are extremly misinfored. So either we are truly getting the shaft from the Japanese and only getting the crappy Prius's here in the US that apparently gets half mpg economy as the Japanese vehicles...or the author has stretched the truth.

I'm just amazed how everyone this side of the pond is just so ready and willing to shoot down anything in the diesel form, when y'all should be the last ones commenting..cos i really doubt any of you have ever driven much less owned a modern day turbo diesel....i am willing to bet most of u who have commented have never driven a modern common rail diesel...at least wait until u actually drive one b4 commenting...

Sorry, but if Europe isn't doing it then it's not worthy of our attention stupid Jap fanboys. Diesel has ruled for 100+ years and are way better than dirty hybrids that are slow and don't get better gas mileage than good-looking cars...
