Audi's Global Sales Rise 9.2% In July

In July, Audi sold more than 81,000 vehicles worldwide – an increase of 9.2% (2006: 74,296). Since January, the Ingolstadt premium brand has sold approximately 590,200 vehicles (up 9.7%; 2006: 537,804).

In July, Audi maintained this dynamic growth in all large markets. On the domestic market, the sales volume of 22,908 was 3.5% higher than the result for the same month last year (2006: 22,138).

With sales of 150,020 vehicles, Audi registered a growth of 0.3% (2006: 149,636) in a market that has declined by over 8% as a whole. Audi was able to increase its market share in Germany to 8.4% in the month of July. For the first seven months, the brand achieved its highest German value in its history as a premium manufacturer with 8%.

Ralph Weyler, AUDI AG Board Member for Marketing and Sales, said, “July was an extremely strong month for us. We continued our expansion in all important markets throughout the world. Once again, we also achieved positive results on the German market. We are expecting significant boosts in the second half of the year, for example from the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA).”

In China (including Hong Kong), which was Audi’s largest foreign market in July, the brand sold 8,779 vehicles, which represented an increase of 37.2% (2006: 6,398). Sales in the UK, which came to 7,797, exceeded those of the previous year by 20.8%. In the USA, Audi increased its sales to 7,127 vehicles (up 1.7%; 2006: 7,005). Other large markets included Spain with 5,626 vehicles (up 5.7%; 2006: 5,321), Italy with 5,174 vehicles (up 1.4%; 2006: 5,104) and France with 3,967 vehicles (up 0.3%; 2006: 3,955).

Throughout Europe, Audi sold 58,609 vehicles, which was 5.8% more than in July of the previous year (2006: 55,378). In the important growth market of Russia, Audi sold 1,352 vehicles, which represented a significant increase of 39.4%. Audi also registered strong growth rates in the Asia Pacific region. In Japan, Audi sold 19.4% more vehicles than in the previous year (965 vehicles; 2006: 808), in Australia sales increased by 44.7% (615 vehicles; 2006: 425) and in South Korea, the brand expanded by 28.3% (413 vehicles; 2006: 322).

Important to whom?

I'm sorry but many of your favorite Lexus/Toyota's so called innovations originated from companies such as Audi. With over 5000 patents to it's credit I think it's safe to say that the Germans have invented just about every significant automotive advancement.

If you would have paid any attention to automotive development over past two decades, Audi engineering has developed so many important technologies that reach now and well into the future, almost every car made in the world.

FSI fuel injection, TDI diesel technology, ASF constuction principles, and those are just the big ones that made headlines. There are literally thousands more. There have been advancements in air bag safety, aerodynamics, and fuel technology just to name a few.

They hire the best minds in the world and actually invent stuff. It's not always about making money at Audi AG. Sometimes it's about making a better product just because they can.

Sometimes when I read about some of the things they are working on, I wish I would have studied harder in my Physics and Chemistry classes so I could understand them better. I can't decide if these guys are doing research for a university grant or trying to build cars for a living.

You have just made me realise that's exactly why I like Audi.
They make better products because they can, not because they have to. Like how Mercedes used to be...constant improvement and development.
Like their interiors. They don't have to make the cupholder out of expensive plastic and make sure it has a well damped action, but they do.

There is an advert going on in Britain at the moment saying how Audi filed over 4000 patents while developing the A6, and how Nasa has only filed 1000 or thereabouts.

In order to reach its stated goal for 2015, Audi will look to increase the quality of its workforce. "We want to get the best for our brand, because its people that move a company," he said, adding that he wanted to make Audi the industry's "most attractive employer."

He said that the carmaker has increased its marketing among colleges and has become more attractive as a brand.

"Our corporate culture is a beacon: the public is realizing that we're accomplishing things at Audi," he said. "We're being taken seriously by young people, engineers, students, business trainees. Who doesn't want to work in a successful company?"

I completely agree with the fact that Audi makes better cars just because they can. From engines to fit and finish. The attention to details in an audi is amazing. One of the best example of "we do it because we can" is the monocle over the light bulb in the R8 headlamps that has R8 engraved, and you will find the same in the new TT, saying TT of course. Does that make the cars faster? No. Do they look better overall? No. But it is there and it reflects the attention to detail and the craftsmanship of Audi.

Amazingbimmer;

please explain to me how, if the BMW engineers are sooo much better, how BMW copied Audi on the fuel straight injection/turbo engine (335) and was still not able to produce more torque than hp, when Audi could with their 2.0L engine, with one single turbo on top of that...
Also that new BMW M3 engine looks very similar to the 4.2 FSI used by Audi in the RS4...
Not that I want to start anything. I am just curious, maybe you know something I don't.

after 5 Audi's since 1996 my current 05 a6 and 07 q7 are fantastic cars, every day getting compliments on both, most people don't realize how amazing and unique they are and oh yeah, quatto also! try taking your RWD jap car or bmw on a hwy ramp at 80mph in the rain or snow! audi==never slip off the road!
