GM to begin testing Chevrolet Volt by Spring 2008

Easy bobby badass. GM (an AMERICAN automaker) is in process of actually having a vehicle that can refine the commute of many individuals..also setting the standard for Plug in hybrids using nano chemical-technology. For ONCE, GM is ahead of the curve..

When we had pure EVs (e.g. GM EV1, Toyota RAV4 EV) 10 years ago (some RAV EVs are still running strong), how is this GM series hybrid concept any advanced? The idea is even too old to be patented.

The big breakthroughs are now relying on battery developments. When the batteries ready, other companies can produce their series hybrids, even pure EVs. By that time, maybe Sony will be better Toyota, GE better than GM on making cars. :)

yep - I guess the bribe money from Shell and Exxon has run out and they're bring back their 10+ year old technology.

and of course GM has to try to and re-invent the wheel and waste countless $$$$$ when the EV1 was sufficient for 95% of daily commuters...stupid ass company...let's hope they do it the right way this time!

@ SupraNeverBack: Umm..I think the EV1 was PURELY an electric car where as the volt operates on the EFlex system. An electric car that has the ability to recharge the batteries i.e. ICE, Fuel cell, etc.

paul, how can GM be ahead of the curve when the volt is NOT even out yet? keep on dreaming. By the way do you and Porschinator work for GM?

Okay, let me break it down. Usually GM is derided because they have/had 4 speed transmissions when others had 5-6 speeds. They have engines going back 20 plus years with minimal updates, yada yada yada. Although GM has caught up quite a bit in the last 2-3 years, they don't LEAD anything from a technology (okay perhaps OnStar and some manufacturing processes) however the Volt is using a different chemical composition than what Toyota is experimenting with. No other mass market company in the world has one on the market currently. GM is to start testing the volt middle of next year. I think that's pretty much ahead of the curve. By the way, no offense to Toyota, but I'm just a guy rooting for home team.

GM had the technology in the EV1 it just needed to be refined. Now you see where GM is because they dont have fuel efficient cars when they had the answer to everyones question to an alternative source. Yet they go and get HUMMER which is an absolutely USELESS vehicle.
