New Honda Accord Coupe (first peak)

I was working at a car wash in Columbus, Ohio and this car pulls into one of our Auto bays. All the badges were covered, but I knew what it was the minute I saw it....

It was the new 08 Accord Coupe

I talked to the guy after he got out of the wash. He works at the Marysville plant and asked me what I thought. I told him its better than what I thought it would be, and definately better than the 4dr version I had seen pictures of.

Overall the car isn't too bad. The front is pretty nice, much more aggressive and more radical than most of Honda's previous stuff. But the rear is an exaggerated Scion Tc. Its this giant rear facing wedge that looks ok from the side, but not so good from other angles.

The car is becoming even more like a fat bubble, and the nice lines of the 90's Honda's are now completely gone. It definately looks aggressive and new, but I would not buy one.

My personal design opinion...
Honda has lost touch with its keen design understanding of proportions and simplicity that so many enjoyed with its 90's product line. Its design goals seemed to be more in line with Chris Bengal's design approach at BMW. The new accord that I saw is a perfect example of that. I only hope that Honda's Acura line up will remain intact with its current style and proportions therefore I will still have some Honda product Im willing to buy.

Its very true , Looks like a camry's front, I know this because I own a Silver camry SE , looks exactly the same with the lights on except, the inner markers.

I think I'm liking it, although the back does look pretty large. Also, I know Honda always does it, but can't they put some decent wheels on their cars. This thing would look so much better with sportier (and larger) wheels/tires. Front kinda reminds me of a 6 Series.

Honda losing its designing edge? I don't know about that. I like the look of the Honda Civic. It's evolutionary when you look at the Toyota Corolla's design.

The front looks Camry-esque, the rear tailights look like a combination of the Subaru Legacy/Mitsubishi 380.
I still like it though.

I think its still a lot more subtle than the previous Accord Euro.

Wow, just wow. Considering that Mercedes has some of the most boring cars on the road, you shouldn't be talking. Look at the B class, what the hell is that? Its a box on wheels with a mercedes badge, why does the current E class look like its 6 years old? You are a stubborn fool to think that the Japanese can't design. The Lexus IS, GS, and LS looks much better than their Mercedes components. The TL, G35 both look classier and sportier than the C-class. In fact, the only thing the C-class has going for it is its nameplate. Inferior build quality, inferior reliability, inferior gas efficency, inferior handling compared to the G, IS, inferior resale value to Lexus, inferior powertrain compared to the VQ35 of the Infiniti. The C-class are for real estate agents who know didly squat about cars, and so are most Mercedes.

Also, not to mention that Honda is not going for exciting looks, its going for understated good looks. There is a reason that Honda is a larger and more wealthy company compared to Mercedes, because they know how to cater to the general public. Exciting polarizing looks will generate lower sales numbers.

After seeing New CIVIC, CR-V, JAZZ, Acura RD-X, MD-X...etc i completely disagree.

In fact I think today's Honda lineup is the best of all time (in company’s history)

And this coupe looks really good to me. If Honda just slightly adjust the front end it would be perfect.

I think it looks good but not having the rear LED lights is a step back in technology. As far as design schemes I think Honda is trying to seperate themselves from Acura so the pointy front ends will be an Acura trait.

In the other pics, I'll tell you that the Civic looks much more exciting sitting next to the Accord, and yes I know it's an Si. Still, it's just not right.

Maybe it's the boring wheels and silver color, because the 08 blue coupe caught in one set of spy pics totally kicked butt. Still, I'm tired of making excuses for Honda designs. Color does affect a car's appearance; however, that's one bland ass no matter the color. And the front end design is sloppy and poorly executed - leaves me crying for the Audi-esque
concept detail.

Here's to hoping I'll be silenced when these things hit the street and can be judged in 3-D.

Well I personally think Hondas look better than Toyota's, however the civic sedan is pretty ugly. Nissan takes the cake though with exception of the Sentra & Altima coupe.
