The most expensive license plate ever?

Dear 001,

Just read this in one of the European mags...

One of the most notable registration plates (F1) in the UK could soon change hands after potential buyers queued up to offer six-figure sums for it.

Essex County Council has had F1on its chairman's vehicle since 1904, but recently issued a statement saying if there was interest, it might be willing to sell.

Lord Hanningfield, leader of the local authority, told Auto Express: "These expressions of interest will now be reviewed before a decision is made as to the best way forward. We can confirm several went above £150,000, with some being much higher."

He wouldn't reveal the sources of the enquiries, but insiders reckon several current Formula One bosses would be interested.

YIKES!

Not the most expensive.

A Hong Kong license plate I believe it was
"HK 1997" was sold for HK$7 million so thats around US$900,000. 1997 was the year HK was returned to China and that plate was bought by some millionare in an auction.
