China's auto sales top the world by 2015, experts say

No surprise here. A population 4 times that of North America will eventually
have an appetite for more automobiles.

But the vehicles are going to be crap. Toyota is the largest car company. There isn't one single Toyota that I would consider owning. High Volume, inexpensive cars aren't high on my priorities.

High-volume, inexpensive cars with *quality* is how Japan is successful. A flood of marketshare with different vehicles across every demographic possible is how America is successful. Europe is successful with "prestige" mysteriously. How will China become successful?

Oh, come now, you know Europe is popular for more than that. They have also always had "*quality*." Quality does not have to de-note reliability. Although European brands are all very reliable (except for Land Rover), they also have some of the finest leathers, most exotic woods, highest level of engineering, etc... that is my version of *quality*.

China will become successful the same way Japan did and how S. Korea is: give us cars that have the same or more content than Hyundai and Toyota for less money.

Honda, in the meantime, will be quietly taking over the world. Rightfully so.

What land are we from where "quality does not denote reliability?" The quality of a car has always been determined by not only the condition of the leather, wood etc, but also how well it was assembled, and how well it holds up over time. It's only recently in our era of history where automakers have insisted on a distinction between "quality" and "reliability," but nonetheless, let me rephrase: "High-volume, inexpensive cars with *quality and reliability* is how Japan is successful." It's why Toyota and Honda already have the world in the palm of their hands, "rightfully so."

VW, Europe's largest automaker, isn't up to par with the Japanese, "reliability-wise," and there's really no denying that. Korea and America has only recently started to make strides in this area as well, and I'd put my money on a full "return to greatness" for the American industry before I put it on China.

There's a reason why you don't see any Lexuses with 500,000+ miles on the odo. I've seen plenty of european cars with even more miles on it. In fact the car that has the most miles ever driven on it, is a european car.

It's OK to like lexus, but that doesn't mean that the german cars are crap.

I actaully prefer the german cars because they seem to look better over time than the japanese cars. Japanese cars after a few years start to really look worn.

Compare a 1990 LS400 with a 1990 BMW 740. The Lexus looks like the body panels have shifted position, while the BMW still looks tight.

An old 7-Series vs. an original LS? As you kind of said, it's okay to like German cars, but that doesn't mean Lexus is crap. What is crap however, is you trying to make anyone believe that a BMW holds up better over time than a Lexus.

Sure no surprise, and also as jobs go over there too.
