It's easy to tell that the list is flawed... Saab is on it. I had one of these that I purchased out of warrantee and within 2 years I had to spend $7K just to keep it on the road. These are frequently on the most repaired vehicles list.

So true. Saab's reliability has always been a low point for the company - especially electronics.

i agree with you will. I just looked up the 5 year cost of ownership for the most expensive cars and they are saying that the depreciation for a CL coupe ( list price $99,900 ) will depreciate $85k over 5 years. are they on crack or something? Unless they think the Mercedes owner will put on 50k miles a year and still then the car will be worth more than 15k after 5 years ....... both of these articles is laughable ..

they didn't even get the base price of the CL550 right...it's $103,875.

No what's worse is check out the number 2 spot S class. Starting MSRP 85 grand and depreciation is at 82 grand.

LOL, that's what I got for our '98 A4 ($5K)-- that was when it was eight years old, with 80,000 miles, with my son's horrific coffee can exhaust, blow-off valve and custom rims.

Until someone offers a subjectively measureable definition of "luxury", then this list is pointless. To many people, luxury is comfort. To others, it's gadget content. Artificially listing the lowest priced models of expensive marques isn't illustrating anything. If we're speaking strictly in terms of affordable comfort (as opposed to vehicle dynamic performance), then Buicks belong in half of these positions. For example, Edmunds rates the Buick Lucerne CXL to have a 5-year cost of $48,300. Let me assure you, the quality and the comfort of the Buick is impressive -- every bit as much luxury as the Acuras, Saabs, Volvos, and Lincoln on the list. Close call on the Audi and Lexi, which have better interiors IMHO at the expense of generous proportions. Buick remains as it always has been: a high quality unpretentious value-priced luxury car. Not my taste, but still a better example of the breed than this ridiculous list. This is just another random list of vehicles intended to sell a magazine.

these lists are misleading. Obviously really expensive cars will cost more to maintain.

BMW and Mercedes have entry level models but are not on the list because they are expensive to own based on depreciation, interest and opportunity costs, fuel, maintenance and repairs, insurance, and taxes and fees. This is not a good thing
for Mercedes or BMW if they want to compete in the future.

Interesting. They've got 7 FWD vehicles, 2 AWD & 1 RWD. Most of the vehicles on the list are also double-branded (i.e. MKZ/Fusion, TSX/Accord, ES350/Camry, etc.). True luxury vehicles - they are not.

Also, don't new BMW's come with the all-inclusive maintenance program that covers the vehicle maintenance for 4yrs/50k mi? I wonder if that was missed when calculating costs of ownership.
