Audi A5 gets new 14 speaker sound system

I'm sure the sound will be fabulous as I have a fancy factory stereo system in my leased A6 Quattro. Only worry I have is that I always wonder if all speakers are still working -- with that many speakers it's hard to tell if all speakers are working or not.

LEXUS= bad cars, but lots of chrome, lazy-boys seats, and a great sterio.

It's a shame the other makes are not putting serious audio systems into their cars. What's with Porsche, with a crappy Bose system and no Bluetooth? I look forward to comparing the B&O system to BMW's HK offering. BMW should pair up with a/d/s and get serious.

harmon/kardon systems in BMWs and Mercs are nothing special... ML and B&O are in a different class entirely.

I'm a bit of an audiophile and although I agree that Harman Kardon in lower-end Mercs sounds decent but nothing special, but their high-end models (S-class, CL, ..) they sound absolutely fantastic. Harman Kardon is still one of the best in the business. On the contrary I found the Mark Levinson system in the IS220d pretty awful sounding.

But B&O is absolutely in a different class, only the best from Harman Kardon and Mark Levinson can match it. The best I have ever heard is in the Bugatti Veyron, unbelievable clear sound. It's from Burmester btw.

Then why did the S8 win "Best In-Car Audio System in the World" last year? It obviously has great sound quality. I know that B&O is known for incorporating form over function, but the units installed in these Audi models seem to be a better balance of the two.

Bose is worthless I can second that but B&O?? Sorry mate but you are talking rubbish.

CommonSense beat me to it. duqit, you were referring to home systems. I know those aren't great- they look amazing but the sound is only average. However, the in-car systems are incredible. The A8's is the best I've ever heard; I've never heard; I have never heard the Nakamichi, BTW. Do they make good home systems?

I once had a B & O system at home and while it was clear and offered superb sound I didn't feel that it offered hard hitting bass that I like. I do agree that Harmon Kardon sucks. I like them for home but in the car its pales in comaparison to the Bose system that was in my old car. I hear that Mark Levinson are great but have yet to experience one.

Yep I agree. I heard the one in the new GS and it doesn't sound much better than the Bose I have in my S4. I'd love to check out the one in the LS. The problem I see with the ML in the LS is that it only has 450 watts spread over 19 speakers. I know wattage doesn't always mean better sound...but more than likely, the more watts the better it sounds. I'll take the 1100 watt B&O system in the A8/S8.

I went to an Audi event today and actually heard the B & O in the A8. It was freakin fantastic. And the tweeters are just plain cool.

I'm sure the A5/S5's sounds even better-- smaller space, same amount of speakers. Concentrated sound + great stereo = fantastic sound. I can see the accolades already.

Anyone who knows something about stereo systems knows BO is the best right now. But competition won't just stand and watch!We'll see.

Mark Levinson is the premiere company for audio sound systems. You haven't heard your music the proper way until you've heard it over an ML system. In some of my most favorite songs ever, I heard instruments I had never even noticed before I played it in my Lexus.

Will, if I remember, you have the RX330... with the ML, I'm guessing. Ours has it too. I am NOT saying this from a "biased" point of view, but the ML system in our car is not good at all. Very tinny at high volume, and it can't hold bass. I have never heard the LS460's, but that is the real halo system for Lexus, and the one that everyone talks about; I'm sure it sounds amazing. The others just look good because of it...
