2008 Nissan Sentra Pricing - No more base manual model

Nissan announced pricing for the 2008 Nissan Sentra. Nissan has discontinued the base 2.0 manual model which increases the starting price from $15,000 to $15,750 plus a $625 destination charge.

To make up for the price increase, Nissan is offering the antilock brakes, previously a $600 option, as standard. Of course since the Sentra was just completely redesigned in 2007, no changes have been made to the 2008 model.

That just proves that it's cheaper for Nissan to buy the dreaded CVT. I'm pissed that the Sentra SE-R Spec V is only available with a manual transmission. It should also be offered with a conventional 6-speed automatic.

nissan needs to stop taking their designs and just shrink it. its probably cost effective, but it gets boring for an owner to know his maxima is just an overgrown sentra!

Nissan needs help...

and i definitely agree with pchera01 on their strategy. cars in this segment need base models readily avail. but necessary changes must be done to help a falling brand!

I am super-excited for the GT-R. I guess that will help them, LOL. It's the only Japanese sports car that I'm really into right now. There aren't a lot of sports cars from anywhere, period, so that's definitely a compliment.

Hopefully I'll like the LF-A just as much, but I don't know anything about it. Not even the release date!

Wow, I thought that was a Maxima in that photo!

The Corolla and Civic are just better choices than the Sentra, and quite bluntly, it has always been that way.

Nissan isn't terribly out of the loop though. The new Altima looks like it's going to be okay, and Infiniti is doing really well. Don't forget they have the GT-R coming up as well.

I agree- but the Corolla is starved for a redesign. My econobox of choice for the moment would be either a Civic or Rabbit... NOT a Jetta.

I hate the Nissan brand for its excessive reliance on the dreaded CVT and failure to offer a conventional 6-speed automatic for the Sentra, Altima, and Maxima; however, in fairness to Nissan, I point out that, among rice burners, that company's engines are trumped only by Subaru's nicely balanced H-configuration engines.

BTW, you can joke all you want by referring to Nissan as Datsun but that's like calling Audi fans DKW fans. Let's stick to cars and not get into a war about who can post the worst smart-ass comment. The other day some idiot referred to the Q7 as a jacked up station wagon in a vain attempt to denigrate the brand.

It simply cannot compare to the Civic or Mazda 3, the best cars in this class, far ahead of the competition.
