AUTO SPIES EXCLUSIVE: Rumor: The little suprise Mercedes has waiting for the M5

If you own a Mercedes E55 fan (AWESOME CAR!) and you're reading all the propaganda about how the new BMW M5 will beat the performance numbers of the E55 when it comes out, we have news for you.

They're right!

But what the propagandist's don't know, is that Mercedes knows that too and has a little surprise waiting in the wings, that will end the peeing contest once and for all.

And its name is...The E65!

It should be one heck of a shootout...Will MB topple the new M5's crown?

We can't wait to find out!

Pick either car and it will still be a family sedan with a lot of horsepower . The M5 has it's Bangled style (nuff said) and the Mercedes althought nicer to look at isn't the sports car athlete .
Yanno -- at these high prices and "over sticker" dealer hype on the "limited production" model cars a person could buy a new C6 AND an E320 and have the best of both with lower miles .

Is this some sort of Joke? Is this just a cheesy way to make power? Now, would all you BMW bigots kindly stop nodding your heads now please and realize what you’re talking about. Driveability, reliability, technology and philosophy are all different between BMW’s and Mercedes. I personally think this is a great car or at least an idea for one and here’s why I hate to see Mercedes bashed by closed minded folk.

As much complaining as I hear from BMW owners about Mercedes design philosophy, I cant help but think how well Mercedes has really stuck to their guns for as long as they have. And I’m reminded of BMW’s own nitch market segment and design philosophy in their motorcycles. For as long as I can remember, they’ve always come out dead last in those comparisons you would find in cycle magazines. But it doesn’t stop me from buying one (or more in my case). And don’t ever tell a BMW motorcycle owner that he’s driving something inferior… You can take your Harley if you think it’s better, I’ll take my Beemer thank you. The simple fact of the matter is that for the better part of the century, Mercedes has built cars that propel their occupants at high rates of speed, quickly and comfortably across great distances. To build a car that defies that purpose is to build a car that runs squarely against every pledge Mercedes has ever made in building it’s cars. You may not like it, but if the Mercedes sales figures are anything worth pointing out, YOU aren’t exactly Mercedes’ dominate customer base. In striving to make a more comfortable and high performance car, Mercedes took a road in their drive train design that may not be what everyone wanted, but most definitely what was expected of Mercedes. Without question, the supercharged V-8 engine is the easiest to operate high performance motor on the market today (not including the new bi-turbo V-12’s). And, the advantages don’t stop there…

Your average Naturally Aspirated bigot will ask you, “Why does Mercedes need to supercharge their engines to make any horsepower? That’s lame, I could supercharge my N/A car and it would have twice the power.” To them I reply, “Why does your car need to rev so high and use such high compression to make any power? And why aren’t your car’s torque figures even worth mentioning?” High compression, high revving, naturally aspirated cars do make lots of horsepower. Enormous amounts, actually. It does so because of the relation between horsepower, torque and RPM. As long as a torque curve remains flat while RPM’s increase, horsepower will increase as well. It wouldn’t be unfathomable to make a some sort of rotary or jet style motor with a torque curve maxing at only 1 pound-foot, to make a thousand horsepower if it revved high enough…. And as for compression, let’s not begin to mention affects of forced air introduction on high compression motors. So yeah, Mercedes uses an old fashioned motor, and supercharges it. What’s the big deal? It gets the job done, it weighs the same, takes up the same amount of room under the hood, and it even gets the same gas mileage. Yeah.. I’m reading your lips.. it’s not high tech and revolutionary right? I would beg to differ. The motor itself isn’t exactly the most high tech piece of equipment you can find on the planet but anyone here that’s an engineer will tell you how hard it really would be to design a forced air introduction system that’s reliable. Stress on materials and mechanics calls for some heavy-duty design intervention. It’s not as slap-dash as those N/A bigots would have you believe. I would dare them to take a risk and put that supercharger that doubles their power on their car and drive it around like I would in my Mercedes.

Speaking of reliability and drivability of course, I cant see that the F/A cars are any less reliable than your N/A ones. With my every day commute, I want my power RIGHT NOW! Any sort of hesitation means I wont make that hole in traffic that I would like to. And to get power out of your N/A car, the revs have to come up. Now, don’t get me mistaken, any high performance engine is going to be less reliable than your average Toyota Corolla, but to tell me that spinning your engine around at high revs and high compression all the time is any less detrimental than forcing air into it, well I don’t know what to call that but just plain silly.

Before I finish, I would like to go back to philosophy… It’s time that I remind those N/A bigots that the idea is shared between Mercedes and all of its tuners since the beginning, including AMG. A performance Mercedes will have to handle marginal twisties, but foremost, it must go screaming down the road at ridiculous speeds. Ever since the Hammer and even Mercedes own creations like the SEL 6.9, that’s exactly what they’ve done and this is no exception. After all, the fastest sedan in the world was a Brabus EV-12 until it was beat.. by another Mercedes.

Cool! E65 huh? From the comments I read seem like Bimmer fans are kinda on the edge and bitter that a potential benz can kick M5's butt.

Give M-B credit

They can certainly crank - out their look-alike models.

If the E65 is real, and if it is sold under $100K fully loaded, even this jaded, M-B Basher would be interested.

Aha

I get it now, the faster you go (as you approach the speed of light) the slower you age.

Hence all the octogenarians will buy the M5 and E65 in order to live longer while enjoying driving. . . and why not?
