The Audi Driving Experience

The Audi Driving Experience
Hey guys today I went to the Audi Driving Experience at the Autobahn Racetrack in Joliet Illinois. It was a spectacular event. I thought you guys might want to see some of the pictures. When it comes to your town you have to go its a blast. They let you drive TT's on the 2.5 mile test track in a lead follow arrangement and there were braking, accident avoidance and psuedo rally excercises. It was really like a half day driving school.
Information is on Audi's website.
Buell Motorcycles also happened to be at the track today sponsoring driving events of there own. I added a few pics of the bikes. I couldn't get close enough to the track to take any shots of the bikes or cars in action.
T

Sorry for the repost. Trying to upload the pics.

JOLIET?! I didn't know! I'm in the Chicago metro! Is it coming any closer to me?

BTW, awesome pictures of the R8... it continues to tease me.

Oh, the black R8 is downright sexy... it's feminine, and that's in the most vulgar, sexual sense.

I ts not coming any closer. But it will be back in Joliet in October. I live in the south suburbs so it was only 20 miles for me but from the city its only about 35 miles so its not a long haul. Sorry I didn't have more pics but I was too busy trying to drive everything they had. BTW the Bang and Olufsen system in the A8 is downright amazing. We didn't have the heart to turn it more than halfway up.

S4, would u go the next week? I was thinking to try the $595 half day program, maybe 21 or 22 August. I am in Chicago too .. On the website (audi) they say the S5 is also available. I would really like to try the S5, the RS4 and OF COURSE the R8.

Funny a Bimmer fan talking down to audi, never heard that before. Show me how your mighty BMW competes against the S8, R8, or TT (don't even say Z4).

I'm a BMW fan but there's no denying the R8 and RS4 are both epic cars. Show some respect for other makes amazinBimmer.

I have one question: why did Audi put their emblem on the tip of the hood on the R8, instead of on the grille? I think it would have made more of a statement to put it right in the middle of the grille. Like it is now, it looks like it's been de-badged, which I hate.

That was done on purpose by Audi AG. They thought it looked better there. Glad you noticed.

Didn't it have something to do with a homage to the Auto Unions which also had the 4 rings above the grill.

Yeah that's true, but they reserve that part of the grill for countries that demand a license plate up front.

It's for aerodynamics .. much better aerodynamics with the 4 rings where they are instead of being on the bottom.

Just kidding ...

How does it compare to the Lexus driving experience? Are these Audi's as reliable, comfortable and sporty like Lexus?

Better than the Japs at least, but sadly no match for Benz and Bimmer.

BMW doesn't even produce the B7, and the S55 AMG was discontinued. The S63 is a cool $40K more than the S8, so I wouldn't call them competitors.

The R8 is very sharp. I prefer the Black vs the silver one. We were just there 2 weeks ago for a BMW event also. It is a great track to take cars and put them through their paces and such ...

EvilHomer, on the USA website, it says that the LED lights in the engine compartment are one of the standard features. (I think) Correct me if I'm wrong.

I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS CAR. How much do you think a one-year-old model will be, if anyone is selling theirs? If I got the coupe version as a "winter" car, I just wouldn't get it new. But if I got the convertible as my summer car... that would be entirely different. Can I get on the list for one of those yet?

Yes I believe it is. The R8 looks even better in real-life on the road photo's. Still you don't get the sense from pictures of how low this car actually is, like up to your chest low.

Not big on the interior however, doesn't look considerably more expensive than either the TT or S5, & the interior door design is to plain IMO.

It looks much better with the beige seats and black dashboard. All-black is boring. But I'd still take it!

Hi TauronB2G,

I am scheduled for the Audidrivingexperience here in NY in 2 days.

I have a few questions for you:
1- Did you take the 2 hour free experience or the 1/2 day (almost 600$) session?
2- Did they let you drive any of the following cars: R8/RS4/S5 or do they have these cars just for show?
3- Do they let you drive long enough or is just a teaser?

Finally, if you had the choice, would you go for the free2 hours or for the paying half day? (should I save my money?)

Thanks
dk
