Disgruntled Range Rover Owner?

I can sympathize with this unhappy Range Rover owner. It's a Ford product after all. I will never ever again buy another Ford product myself because of my experience with Grand Marquis cars that failed to deliver on the promise of the brand.

You owned a Grand Marquis? Were you a detective or private investigator or something?

r_driver04, actually I had three Grand Marquis in a row - all were business write-offs and were bought for comfortable highway travel. All were acquired new at cost plus $100 with the dealer keeping his holdback from Ford. The first one was bought when the new body first appeared in the Spring of 1991 as a 1992 model. The oil pan (yes the oil pan) rusted out 2 weeks before the warranty expired and Ford then changed the rust-thru warranty from 6 years to 5 years and for body panels only. BTW, it cost Ford about C$700 to replace that oil pan as they had to lift the engine a bit just to get at it. How stupid is that Ford? I finally dumped it when all four fenders rusted through at the top of the wheel well. This car had a unibody on top of a separate cheap frame which is great for road noise isolation and a rattle-free ride but that cheap frame rusted right through so the unibody ended up maintaining overall integrity just before I dumped it.

The next two Grand Marquis were leased for 2-year periods at advantageous lease rates and each was driven at least once from the East to the Pacific coast.

The problem with the last two was that the seats on one were too mushy and the very last one had excessively firm seats. My bum was sore from the cross country trip.

BTW, I forgot to mention that my first Grand Marquis was a dark blue color and all the clearcoat on the roof turned white -- Ford refused to do anything about it.

Is this supposed to be surprising? We all know Range Rover reliability has hit rock-bottom. But to be honest, that wouldn't stop me from buying one. It's excellent in every other respect, except maybe gas mileage, which will be resolved in the next-gen, aluminum-bodied model.

Same here, the Range Rover is still BY FAR my favorite SUV.

I wish that GM would buy Range Rover and get rid of the H2 and H3 Hummers and start selling the real Hummer, the H1, as soon as the H1 can be produced again for the civilian market.

I would also like to see the International Scout reappear on the market, perhaps this time with a rugged aluminum body and inline 6-cylinfer diesel of about 2.5 to 3.0 litre displacemnet.

I had a black 2000 Range Rover awhile back that I bought new. I lived in Houston at the time and the climate control always had problems. I would take it to the shop at least once every month or so. They would take forever and then on numerous occasions the light would come back on while driving back off the lot.

I still loved it. All of it's strange British idyosyncracies (sp) really charmed me. Plus, not getting to drive it very much made me super excited to get it back all the time!

The cooling system drainage hose finally "pee'd" on my feet for the last time so I traded it in on a BMW and loss my ass with all the depreciation.

Probably still my favorite car though....I'm sick.

Kind of like marrying a supermodel, beautiful, but high maintenence.

They've been unreliable prior to Ford. Hell, look at Jaguar too. Awesome cars as long as you own the Rover and Jaguar Service Center. I'd love to own a Land Rover but I can't the chance of having it in the shop once a month for stupid stuff like......air suspension leaks or fuel delivery problems. You know...the little stuff.

Well now you can buy the Lexus LX570. It looks better than the Land or Range Rover, it's more reliable, it performs better (can outperform and outhandle a Porsche Cayenne Turbo S and Benz ML63 AMG) and it also gets superb fuel economy. And it costs less too. Think about this.

I love the look of the RR Sport, but I have always been afraid of its bad quality and reliability reputation. Also as somebody already stated, depreciation is unbelievable on these vehicles.

Because people are lining up for the LX570. I ordered two.

Ford owning Land Rover really has nothing to do with the reliability factor. In fact, I would assume the reliability has gotten better since Ford took ownership of Land Rover.
My 2000 was Pre-Ford and during BMW's reign but that model had been out since 1995 so it's architecture was pure Land Rover.
The fact of the matter is that ENGLISH CARS ARE ENGLISH CARS! They look great but have bad electrical problems.

And by the way, the Lexus LX570 is hideous. Why would I buy something that has awkward tumors on the fenders? The Range is gorgeous.
