2009 Saturn Astra Pricing revealed - air conditioning costs $960

Saturn is finally bringing its award-winning European hatchback to the United States with a range of standard equipment, safety features and great fuel economy. The folks at KickingTires have found the 2008 Saturn Astra pricing on Saturn’s website rather than through the standard channels.

Why would a car that costs $5K more than a Chevy Aveo or Kia Rio have air conditioning OPTIONAL? Why don't they just jack up the price $500 and make it standard?
