Filmmaker Involved in Fatal Car Accident

Aug 24, 11:41 PM (ET)

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Oscar-nominated director John Singleton was driving a Lexus SUV when it struck and killed a jaywalker who stepped in front of the car, police said Friday.

Singleton, 39, immediately stopped his car and waited for police to arrive after the accident Thursday night in the city's Jefferson Park neighborhood, said Officer Jason Lee, a police spokesman.

"Mr. Singleton stopped and identified himself as required by law and was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol," Lee said. "He was questioned and released."

The woman was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead Friday morning, Lee said. She was identified as Constance Russell, 57, of Los Angeles.

Other details were not immediately released, and an after-hours call to Singleton's agent was not immediately returned.

Singleton, whose debut film, 1991's "Boyz N The Hood," earned him two Oscar nominations, has also directed "Poetic Justice,""Shaft," and "2 Fast 2 Furious." He was the producer of "Hustle & Flow,""Black Snake Moan" and the just-released "Illegal Tender."

The air there must be so clean.

Where I live there are many German cars. I can hardly breathe the air here anymore.

why is this on this site? The fact that a jaywalker was killed by a a famous person driving a Lexus is "car enthusiast news"? Who cares that he was driving a Lexus, and why is the title of this thread "John singleton drives a Lexus SUV"? How on earth does that trivial bit of completely unimportant information become the "news" part of the story about a womans unfortunate death?

Because any bit of new s including Lexus is gold to AutoSpies, and so dickheads like david and Kalimba can make love.

The fact of the matter is, this post in no way reflects anything faulty or stupid about the automaker. It was a car accident, it can happen to anyone. It just so happens members like to post up Lexus articles majorly. Thinking this is good new for anyone and Lexus haters. So whats the point of this article?

Stupid German fanboys just want to make Lexus look bad. If this were an M class or an X5, not only would the jaywalker be dead but the guy driving the German POS would be dead too.

At least this guy drove a Lexus. He lived, the other guy didn't. This says a lot about Lexus interior safety (class leading of course).

It is fast becoming a huge situation for Lexus! They are tentatively being called the "auto-park, hyper-acceleration anomolies". The "elite" engineers at Lexus installed a program that is enabled by placing the vehicle in auto-park mode. As the Lexus engineers have always struggled year after year to copy and mimic everything the far superior German engineers have done, the Lexus boys awoke an old idea designed many many years ago and hidden away by the Germans. The program was a top secret program to assist the world in getting rid of social misfits, outcasts, the homeless, the old, the racially impaired, oh and of course homo's. As the Japaneese engineers didn't speak German, they installed the program anyway, feeling quite safe that as it was German engineering it obviously was a great idea; knowing full well that they could not and have never been able to design anything of value in the automotive world, other than of course the "Speed Racer" animated cartoon series. When auto-park is enabled, the car thinks it can do two things at once and if at the same time one of the aforementioned social pariahs or undesireables approaches the vehicle, it auto accelerates and lurches foreward with enormous speed and crushes the person. At latest news, Toyota has shipped 2 divisions of attorneys to handle the litigation alone! A hint to Japaneese engineers, do the world a favor, no 2 favors; stop copying everything and never try to do 2 things at once. Your like my wife, just can't do it!

umm wtf does your story have to do with this irrelevant article?
"The program was a top secret program to assist the world in getting rid of social misfits, outcasts, the homeless, the old, the racially impaired, oh and of course homo's." Wow that's just a f**ked up thing to say. Doesnt matter what company it is. You know that sounds similiar, getting rid of a group of people. Sounds like something Germany did.

Princess Diana died in a Mercedes. Mercedes are unsafe cars and they're overpriced too. Lexus clearly leads the safety field. No celebrities have died in a Lexus. In fact no people have died in a Lexus. Lexus are the safest cars on the planet.
